Animal Webaction visited the site 30 December 2022 and confirms the situation described below.
"Our shelter currently has 92 dogs and we also feed over 100 street dogs. Unfortunately, due to inflation, buying kibble has become a huge budget for our small association. We can no longer buy as much kibble as before and inevitably, our stocks are running out faster!
We have not seen any positive developments in recent times. Our main donor can no longer help us because his hotel is closing and he no longer has the resources to donate. We do have a few Teamers but their number is limited and stagnant, we received the equivalent of 30 euros in donations in the last few months...
Today, we have enough to last a few more days only, by rationing the portions of kibble we distribute. I am very worried about my dogs, I am thinking a lot because I do not know how to solve this problem alone... It is very frustrating to always have to rely on others, but I have no other choice! Without your help and the success of this campaign, I will not be able to feed my protégés..."
"The lack of kibble is already having visible consequences on the dogs in the shelter. They have started to lose weight and some even have visible ribs... This situation is heartbreaking and frustrating for us, because this is not what we want for them! Due to our situation, we also cannot continue rescue operations for the moment. There are a lot of people calling us every day but we can't keep up! How could we, when we are actually struggling to feed the dogs under our roof...
To be honest, if the situation continues to deteriorate, we are even afraid of having to release some of the shelter dogs... This prospect scares us and we hope with all our hearts to not have to come to that. We have many disabled dogs, they won't be able to fend for themselves or survive on their own out there! This campaign is really essential for us to be able to continue taking care of our dogs at the shelter, as well as those outside... Animal Webaction is our only option!"
"Nestor is a 3-year-old dog, he was a hunting dog, but his owners threw him out, probably because he was sick. He has Leishmaniasis and is currently undergoing treatment, he is still very weak. I hope with all my heart that Nestor will be able to heal, regain his health and maybe even find a home! But for now, he needs high quality kibble in sufficient quantities to support his treatment and get back on his feet. And we need you to be able to provide it for him..."
"The last few months have been very difficult. I had to be hospitalised for a hip operation and for three months the little guest house I run was forced to close. And anyway, since the closure of the borders and the pandemic, we haven't been able to get back on track, so we're going to have to close the doors, period.
Now I have no source of income and no partnerships to help me feed my dogs. I can't even count on the occasional kibble donations I used to received from some of my B&B's guests, as it's going to be closing anyway... That's another source of help that is disappearing...
We have been given anaesthetics, bandages and compresses by vets, but that's the only help we've had recently. The kibble supply problem remains unchanged, prices have gone through the roof and so have our debts to suppliers... I naively hope that the price of kibble will come down soon but I'm not getting my hopes up too much... We need a helping hand now more than ever to feed our dogs, they don't deserve to be in this situation!"
"My association was created with the aim of improving the lives of animals in Marrakech. The shelter allows us to be more effective in our actions by providing a place of quarantine and care for sick dogs, and it offers a home to disabled dogs who cannot survive in the streets. Even though our results are not always as good as we had hoped, we are convinced that we are making a difference and showing people that there are alternatives to slaughter... Our long-term goal is to extend our actions to other cities and to make Marrakech an example, with a 100% sterilised and vaccinated stray population.
Unfortunately, the road to reach these goals is very difficult and full of pitfalls... Taking care of and providing for so many animals is a huge task, I think many people don't realise how big it is. Support is scarce and letdowns are many. Some people even abuse our trust and leave us unpaid bills for services rendered (serologies, etc)... It's really discouraging to have to deal with these situations! In spite of everything, we try not to lose motivation, because we know that we provide a huge service to the animals and the community through our actions."
Animal Webaction has a logistic platform in Morocco, which allows us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles.
"We are doing our best to sterilize the streets of Marrakech, but the lack of means is a huge obstacle for us. Unfortunately, we do not have enough donations to carry out a large-scale sterilization or rescue project. We are present on social media and regularly communicate with our community to show them our actions and ask for help. Unfortunately, the digital aspect requires a lot of time, with little results at this point. We really hope this campaign will be successful, because we really need it. If the purchase of kibble is covered, our babies will be safe for some time, and we will be able to accelerate our rescue and sterilization actions."
When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The beneficiary doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.
