Animal Webaction visited the site 07 January 2023 and confirms the situation described below.
"Kibble supply has always been a major concern for us, but since COVID, we don't get as much support as we used to. Our donations have dropped dramatically and now with the added pressure of inflation, it has become unmanageable! Today we can't even gather enough kibble to feed the 70 dogs at the pound...
We have been rationing the portions we give the dogs for two weeks now and with what we have left, we'll barely be able to make it through another week, with maximum cutting. The problem is that with the cold weather, the dogs need to eat more than usual to stay healthy... I feel sad and helpless. It is my responsibility to provide for the dogs, and I feel like I am failing... "
"The dogs at the pound are becoming more aggressive due to the lack of kibble.... Fights have already occurred resulting in injuries and infections. Seeing the dogs turn on each other because of the lack of kibble is terrible for us, and a painful reminder of the dire situation we find ourselves in!
If we don't manage to find kibble soon, we are really afraid that we will end up losing dogs, whether due to fatal fights, or starvation... These prospects are unbearable for us! The dogs have already suffered enough in their lives, they have done nothing to deserve this fate. We need your help to keep them alive and well..."
"We found Mali wandering near a landfill, looking for food in the trash. Clearly someone had just abandoned him there. Despite his difficult circumstances, he is a dog who loves to give kisses and hugs to humans... It's impossible not to fall in love with his friendly and affectionate nature!
Unfortunately, the current lack of kibble is having a big impact on his health. He is incredibly skinny, he has lost a lot of weight. Without the success of this campaign, things will go from bad to worse for him... We are afraid that he will continue to lose weight and as you can see, he unfortunately doesn't have much left to lose..."
"We are entirely dependent on the generosity of good people to be able to provide kibble for the dogs at the pound, but due to inflation, our donations have decreased significantly. Even with four volunteers joining our forces to raise funds, we are unable to receive a steady source of funding.
We are doing our best to solve this problem: we have contacted foreign organizations, most of them have never responded, but we have received a positive response from one of them. A German organization now sends us donations every two or three months. The last time, the total amount collected was a few hundred euros. This helps us a lot and without it, the situation would be even worse, but unfortunately, as much as it pains us to say it, it is not enough!
We have also contacted local food factories, to no avail. Personally, I even asked for a pay raise at my job so I could spend the extra money on the dogs... but that didn't work either. With very few donations, adoptions and 70 mouths to feed... we just can't do it anymore! We need your help to continue!"
"I started getting involved in animal protection because I was disappointed to see how some people treated animals in our region and I wanted to make all dogs happy and loved. I know it may seem silly, but it was my original goal! As I got deeper into this work, I realized that it was unfortunately not possible to achieve this goal. It was difficult for me to come to this realization, I often cried and couldn't sleep. But eventually, I realized that I needed to be content with one dog, one rescue, one success at a time! To this day, I’m still trying to follow that motto and that’s what helps me keep going.
I definitely need something to hang on to, because between the difficulties we face to get funding and the lack of overall recognition for the hard work we do, sometimes it’s really hard to keep our morale up. Even though it would be nice if people stopped by to thank us from time to time, the best thing of all would be that they stop molesting and killing dogs… We do our best to spread love and the dogs at the pound appreciate that, but sadly, some of them have seen too much evil and we cannot undo that…”
