Animal Webaction visited the site 22 January 2023 and confirms the situation described below.
"Currently, I take care of about 100 street cats, in various parts of the city... These cats usually live in hiding at this time of the year, as they seek protection from the rain and the cold; they even go under cars to keep warm... They are often found around rubbish bins where they try to find food. And, unfortunately, between inflation and the lack of donations, I can no longer buy kibble to feed them!
Their number has increased: during the winter period, there are more kittens and pregnant cats who end up abandoned... Many inhabitants would like the feedings to stop, so that the cats leave their neighbourhoods. They no longer accept cats and they complain about their meowing, fighting, droppings, roaming, breeding and proliferation...
Now, I am forced not to feed them at all, due to the lack of sufficient kibble stock... The consequences are already there: they are hungry, getting thinner and thinner and catching scabies! I often find them meowing in front of my door, waiting for me to give them food... It really hurts my heart! Faced with the lack of means, this campaign is my only hope to save so many cats in distress from a terrible famine!"
"Foufa is a street cat who was abandoned at a very young age, when she was 6 months old. I am currently very worried about her: she is pregnant and also suffers from scabies! When I still had food for the strays, I tried to gain her trust by feeding her, but she is still very shy and it's difficult to approach her!
I fear that with the lack of kibble, all my efforts to gain her trust and affection will be in vain. Unfortunately, I currently don't have enough room for her at the shelter... If the campaign fails, I won't be able to treat her for mange and she may lose a lot of strength, putting her in real danger now that she is expecting kittens..."
"I currently house 100 cats in my shelter. My rescues of fragile abandoned cats are essential, especially as they are not used to surviving on the streets... I look after them, treat them, vaccinate them and sterilise them until I can find them a new home. This makes a difference on a daily basis because it reduces their proliferation and protects them from diseases!
But because of inflation, my situation has become critical and without help, I would not be able to continue the shelter... I must say that the number of cats I take in every week is increasing: they are sick, especially with scabies (it's the period and it's highly contagious!) or coryza... They arrive in very poor condition: malnourished, seriously injured, handicapped...
Here, they may be sheltered, but they are hungry: now, I only give them kibble (the cheapest available!) once a day! And they get aggressive: the dominant ones take all the food, leaving very little for the weaker ones... I don't even have enough kibble to last a day! I feel depressed when I imagine the terrible fate that awaits them if I don't manage to get any... My cats will starve and the weakest won't survive for long!"
"Enzo is 6 months old and arrived at the shelter 2 months ago, victim of a traffic accident... When he arrived, he was paralysed and could not walk. I took him to the vet who treated him, but unfortunately, he still has after-effects and cannot walk properly... On top of that, he has a nasty case of scabies that has spread!
Enzo is a very calm and sociable cat, he likes the company of humans... But he is still very fragile as he is still young! He is undergoing treatment and he depends entirely on me to survive... He would never have survived on his own, outside - he needs this delivery to properly assimilate his treatment and hope to recover!"
"Kibble prices have risen and, with fewer and fewer donations, I can no longer afford them like I used to... There is no expense item that is less important than another to run a shelter, but at the moment, I am finding it very hard to pay for everything, whether it's the vet's bills (visits, treatments, neutering...) or kibble. I can't even buy kibble on credit from the suppliers as long as I haven't paid my old debts...
Besides, I'm also very indebted to the vet... There are even cats in distress that I can't treat and have checked! One female cat needed to be hospitalised, but I simply couldn't afford the hospital fees - so she stays at the shelter and I do my best for her. I can't take care of the shelter cats and the street cats without help; getting them vaccinated, sterilised, fed is a lot to take on! I can't see any other alternative than this campaign to be able to feed all the cats..."
"My actions make a difference for cats on a daily basis and that's why I continue to work hard on helping abandoned cats! It is essential for me to protect them and find them a forever home. I continue to sterilise 3-4 cats a month, thanks to Stray Care International, to stop their proliferation and avoid epidemics...
I have five volunteers who help me feed the street cats... Some people encourage me in my efforts and my actions, but many others, on the contrary, criticise them! There has still been no change on the part of the municipality, which prefers to leave it up to the associations and people involved in animal protection to take care of stray cats, without providing any help...
The State does not implement laws, aids or solutions to feed or contain the population of stray cats, nor does it take any action to raise public awareness... I feel powerless in the face of the situation of the cats in my town. I know that all the efforts I make do not necessarily change much, because I feel a bit alone at my level. But collectively, with more support, it would be really meaningful for the cats here!"
Animal Webaction has a logistical platform in Morocco, which allows us to intervene quickly and deliver kibble.
"I am being helped by Monique, from Stray Care International, regarding the sterilisation actions... I have already asked other associations for help, but I haven't found any other organisation that could do anything for me...
On the other hand, a French association has offered to help me with the adoption of cats outside Morocco... I have to say that I haven't had any cat adoptions for several months now. I do my best to make sure that the cats going for adoption arrive in caring and loving homes... But I have a hard time finding adopters, especially in my country!
As far as the online kitty is concerned, I keep on doing it, but it doesn't work well... At the moment, I've reached a stage where I have no other solution than the success of this Animal Webaction campaign to get kibble so I can feed the cats in my shelter and those in my city."
When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the collected products, the beneficiary receives nothing and the buyers get a refund...
