Animal Webaction visited the site 06 February 2023 and confirms the situation described below.
"I take care of 95 stray cats in different parts of the city... Their number has increased a lot lately, unfortunately, as many pregnant females, unsterilised males and kittens have been abandoned over the months... Some cats are even abandoned for " convenience ", in case of house moves or vacations... While living in the streets, these cats massively reproduce and they also quickly get sick ; coryza is raging and this virus spreads at a very high speed among the cat colonies!
In addition to the multiple diseases, the dangers of the streets are numerous for the cats: traffic accidents, mistreatment, starvation... I do my best to provide for them but, with fewer and fewer donations, it's really difficult to manage the expenses! I feed them once a day but it has become unbearable with the rising prices... Yet, I ration the kibble portions because I don't have enough anymore: the stock will be depleted in 2, 3 days at the most... It's depressing to constantly try to get kibble... I'm exhausted! If this campaign fails, I will have no way to prevent starvation among street cats..."
"I can't feed the cats enough at the moment... I used to be able to give them more kibble, so they could feed themselves in both the evening and the morning. But now I have to save up what I have left because I'm running out of it... I can barely give them half of what I used to and they are clearly hungry!
I can see that many cats are getting thinner and thinner. On top of that, they often eat anything to survive, by scavenging in the garbage, so it makes them all the more fragile! Malnutrition causes many health problems and the nights are cold at the moment, so they are more easily exposed to diseases...
Rare are those who feed and help them... Unfortunately, there are still too many people who continue to be mean and aggressive towards these cats! They won't last long outside if I can't bring them any more kibble... They need to eat better to survive in these conditions and without this campaign, I won't be able to help them!"
"Elsa is a one-year-old cat who was born in the street... Unfortunately, she has a severe case of coryza and lost an eye to the virus. She is one of the cats that should be sterilised as soon as possible, but she is very shy and it is difficult to approach her without food!
And as long as she is not completely cured, the operation will not be possible! It's vital that this campaign succeeds, as Elsa is unable to find food on her own in the street... If I don't give her any kibble, she'll get too weak and I won't be able to have her spayed!"
“These are difficult times for the cats and I too. Inflation has pushed up the price of the kibble I buy to feed them... I can only buy less and less. I post appeals for help on Facebook and I receive help from two foreign organisations, especially for the sterilisation of street cats... But as I have to feed more and more cats and cover the costs of their medical care, it is unfortunately not enough. There are many new cases that require hospitalisation and I don't have the means to cover everything.
I am also faced with debts to the vet clinic... I have no choice but to postpone certain operations, such as sterilisations, which are crucial for these cats! I have a few cats in my care at home and at friends' homes, which also represents a substantial budget... The financial issue really limits my scope of action when I would so much like to do more for them! Without help, without donations, it's impossible to repay my debts and to cover all the expenses essential to the well-being and survival of the cats, such as treatments or kibble..."
"I'm lucky to have relatives and neighbours who support me by helping out when I'm not able to do the cat feeding rounds... Sometimes I find people who volunteer to help me. Some people see me feeding the cats and start doing the same, giving them leftovers...
And yet, there are people who kill street cats simply because they are inconvenienced by their presence in their neighbourhood! I don't like to see cats suffering in silence, outside and knowing that people are hurting animals breaks my heart... In fact, many cats have totally lost trust in humans and it becomes difficult to catch them during sterilisation campaigns!
I often feel helpless in front of all the misery and suffering these animals go through in my city... But things are moving a bit and I am so happy to see that there are still good people who are mobilising for the animal cause in Morocco... When I see the results of my actions with the cats that I feed, save, have sterilised and adopt, it gives me the courage to continue and never give up!"
Animal Webaction has a logistics centre in Morocco, which enables us to intervene quickly and deliver kibble.
"I consider sterilisation and vaccination to be among the most important things for the well-being of cats, along with food and water... Two organisations support me in the sterilisation campaigns for street cats: "Stray Care International" and "Network for Animals"... I don't know how I would do without them but despite all they do, it's impossible for me to keep up financially; there are so many abandoned cats! And sterilisation is still a very taboo thing here...
When I post information about cats in medical distress or veterinary bills on Facebook, very few people come to my aid to pay... There is often more talk than action! As for my appeals for kibble donations, they are never really successful either, so this Animal Webaction campaign is really all I have left to continue helping and feeding the cats in my town..."
When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The beneficiary doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.
