"Currently, the association takes care of 250 street cats, spread over about 6 feeding sites. Their number is only increasing, as there have already been many abandonments this year. Some arrive at the site unsterilised, and a vicious circle begins.
In spite of all our efforts to take care of them and to manage the expenses as well as possible, our stocks of kibble are melting down... we only have enough to last for ten days! We try to supplement with rice and leftovers from restaurants, but it's not enough: the cats don't always eat enough. With the cold weather, we fear that they will become weak or catch diseases..."
"Princess is a 6 year old cat who was born on the street. She had a string of litters for several years before we managed to catch her and have her spayed. At the time of the operation, the vet had noticed a slight lump on the top of one of her front legs, but nothing alarming.
However, a fortnight ago, Princess arrived at her usual feeding site with a gaping wound in the same place. Since then, what appears to be a tumour is getting bigger and bigger... Princess is eating less and less, remains prostrated and is losing weight. We absolutely have to take her to the vet to have her treated properly! But since she was spayed, she is particularly wary. Kibble would allow her to regain her strength and to let herself be caught for treatment. Otherwise, she might not make it to spring..."
" Shops don't want to let us organise food collections in store, because they can't replenish their stocks of kibble. So the only supermarket collection we have will not help us feed the cats...
Unfortunately, we can't count on donations to get us through this either. With the financial crisis and the increase in prices, people are less generous than before. Compared to last year, we have seen a 20% drop in donations! This may not seem like much, but the impact on our budget is enormous.
As for the subsidies we receive, they don't even cover a third of our current veterinary expenses... So we don't have enough money left to buy food for our protégés. We do try to organise raffles and get as many memberships as possible, but this is far from enough. Our actions with the street cats are essential, we can't stop everything and leave them without help!"
"I have been involved in the animal cause since 2014. Taking care of the cats requires a lot of time and energy on a daily basis: at least 4 or 5 hours in the field, not counting the administrative part and the trips to the vet.
These days, I am very worried: as I am unemployed, I have no financial resources to help the association through this difficult period. In 10 days' time, I'll find myself without any food to give to these poor animals!"
