We cannot let the street cats under Hajar’s care and those at her shelter starve!

1. In Morocco, Hajar has run out of kibble to feed the 190 street cats under her care, they risk starvation if no one helps!

"Currently, I take care of more than 190 street cats in several neighbourhoods. There are more and more of them on the streets, some people get rid of them when they are sick, in heat or when the females are pregnant... In addition to all the dangers of life on the street, their current situation is really precarious: during Ramadan, grocery shops and restaurants close, therefore some cats no longer have access to leftover food... They are hungry and scavenge in the hope of getting food, which is disastrous and dangerous for their health!

Only, I struggle really hard to get kibble; the donations are insufficient, everything is so expensive and I have debts everywhere! I don't have the means to cope alone so, unfortunately, I had to resolve to stop the feeding rounds a fortnight ago... The cats are emaciated, it affects me enormously to see their health deteriorating without being able to help them. I am so worried... If this campaign fails, I fear that few of them will make it through unscathed - disease and starvation await them!"

2. Espoir is mangy and scabby: his immunity is badly affected by the lack of kibble, he will not recover without this delivery!

"Espoir is around 3 years old and I've been seeing him on the street for a while... His condition has deteriorated quite quickly as he used to be in pretty good shape. But he has recently caught scabies and ringworm and for me there is no doubt that it is linked to the lack of kibble! 

His immune system has really weakened and that's an open door to infection and disease! He is very fearful and if I don't get this kibble delivery, I won't be able to get near him to treat him and he will never be able to regain his strength or get better!

3. At the shelter, Hajar also takes care of 190 very vulnerable cats: they no longer have enough kibble to eat, they are famished!

"I have 190 cats at the shelter now. Many of them are in a very poor condition because I only take in the sickest, most injured, most disabled cats or those in need of urgent veterinary care... But the growing lack of resources worries me a lot: I had to postpone some treatments and there has been a kibble shortage for a month at the shelter...

I no longer have any stock and now I get kibble by the drop... This never lasts very long and above all, I am dependent on the donations I receive, which remain very small and insufficient. Some days I can't buy any at all... I am forced to feed my cats only once a day, even the weakest of them.

I have to ration to the extreme and this has a direct impact on them: they are more aggressive, fighting more and the stronger ones eat from the weaker ones' bowls. It's a lot of stress and I have insomnia! Without a more sustainable kibble supply, I'm afraid my cats' health will deteriorate and they will end up starving to death..."

4. Statia survived a very advanced cancer: her condition remains particularly fragile and does not allow her to be deprived of kibble...

"Statia is 3 years old and she is a real miracle: I took her in in an extremely critical state, more than a year ago; she was suffering from a very advanced stage of nasal cancer, which has eaten away a good part of the skin of her muzzle...

I never thought she would survive, she's a real fighter! But her condition makes her one of the most vulnerable and fragile cats in the shelter - she won't survive if I don't have any more kibble to give her!"

5. Hajar is in great financial distress, debts are piling up and donations are lacking: she can no longer get kibble...

"It used to be easier for me to feed the cats, I had a lot less to take care of and kibble prices were still affordable... But now, between the meteoric rise in the number of cats and that of kibble prices, it has become almost impossible to cope! Donors are also affected by inflation and the support I receive is affected...

I am in serious debt to the vet and can no longer buy kibble on credit from the supplier until I clear up the unpaid bills... But my appeals for help and my online collections are not very successful. I even sell my stuff (clothes, objects, etc.) just to get a little bit of money!

With more money and more help, I could feed and save more cats in need! I would be able to provide them with proper care and buy everything needed to make sure that the shelter can accommodate the most fragile ones in good conditions. This campaign is my only hope to continue my actions with all these cats who count on me!"

6. Hajar isn't asking for money, only kibble to prevent the cats from starving.

"I am lucky to have five people volunteering to help me feed the street cats in different parts of the city. I always feel so sad when I think about these cats and it is a hard reality to accept that I am not able to save all these abandoned cats and help them have a better life, given my lack of means...

I am still happy to receive encouragement for my actions with the cats, even if there are also always people who criticise what I do... I don't give it much importance. I devote my time to the animals in distress in my city and try to ensure the well-being and satiety of as many of them as possible.

That's why I always continue to raise awareness of the importance of sterilising pets; it's essential to avoid the proliferation of strays and hope to see their numbers decrease one day... Abandoned cats don't adapt well to the street and all its dangers, so I do my best to protect and care for them."

7. If this campaign is successful, Hajar will not receive any money but 920 kg of kibble, delivered from Animal Webaction's logistics platform in Morocco.

8. Despite her supporters' help, Hajar is no longer able to collect enough donations to feed all the cats: this campaign is her last resort!

"Thanks to Stray Care International, I am able to carry out sterilisation activities every month - between 3 and 10 cats on average... I also receive help from them sometimes when it comes to some veterinary care and, from time to time, a bit of food... Without this collaboration, I don't know what I would do... 

Unfortunately, even their unfailing support does not allow me to get enough kibble to feed all the cats in my care. And I haven't found any other associations or people with whom to create a long-term partnership... Animal protection actors in Morocco should be more supported by the State! 

My shelter is a small structure, so I depend entirely on people's generosity to provide for the cats' needs... I have to deal with more and more animals, fewer and fewer adoptions and even fewer resources! I will be deeply grateful to every person who will contribute to the success of this campaign and thus help many cats who need it!"

9. Campaigns launched on Animal Webaction often fail...

10. In Morocco, donors are scarce, and there are no foundations or subsidies. It is very difficult to find funding for kibble, many cats remain starving in the street!
