Animal Webaction visited the site 15 April 2023 and confirms the situation described below.
“I feel extremely preoccupied by the lack of kibble I’m faced with; I have 169 dogs under my care at the shelter and I’ve been rationing their portions to the maximum for a week now - I have no other choice, if I didn’t do that, there would be no kibble left in stock to feed them as I speak! But in doing so, they definitely don’t eat enough…
Providing kibble for so many dogs is tremendously costly and now, I’ve reached the limits of my financial abilities: I’m too indebted, donations get increasingly low, which got even worse since I lost donors… At that stage, I cannot buy any more kibble. I do my best to avoid a famine at the shelter but this burden is too huge and heavy to carry all by myself…
The thought of letting my dogs starve is absolutely unbearable and I feel really overwhelmed by this eventuality; I feel stressed, disappointed and sad. I need this campaign to succeed not only to ease my mind and find emotional relief, but for my dogs’ survival - it’s my main priority! Their lives are at stake if I can no longer keep them fed…”
“It’s particularly devastating for me to see the dogs suffering more and more from hunger as I’m running out of kibble. There are so many of them to feed and the shelter is overcrowded - I really need more kibble and more room for each of them to flourish! Yet, I know they’re safer there than the dreadful situations and conditions they were all rescued from…
Out there in the streets, stray dogs aren’t being fed or cared for, and many are being harassed and attacked. The authorities, on the other hand, continue to carry out culls and I’ve also been told of blood-curdling accounts of violent dog deaths... It’s alarming to see how these animals’ lives aren’t valued!
There are indeed still too many street dogs that need saving and, given the current context, I am simply unable to help them all. It is tragic… This campaign is about the dogs and for them; I can’t release them and I can’t watch them starve either…”
“Lika is eight years old and she used to live on a farm… She lost two of her feet after a terrible car accident. Her current health is stable, but she is particularly at risk if we can't provide her with kibble. She’s ageing and has limited mobility, which makes her particularly dependent on me; she can't move around much and find food on her own. I need this delivery to continue to feed her and make sure her health doesn’t decline…”
“I struggle to provide for the dogs; the resources I have are too low to match all the expenses required for the well-functioning of the shelter: kibble, vet care and all the other cost items are huge and I don't have enough funds to pay for everything... As a result, I am in a lot of debt with the kibble supplier, the pharmacy and I owe almost three months of rent for the shelter! I’m even behind on my workers' payment - it’s a very stressful situation! I even had to postpone operations that are necessary for the dogs' health… Vet care is among my biggest priorities, but it's too hard to cope with such limited resources!
The donations I get have decreased for so long, times are too challenging for people to donate so, losing some of my donors was the last straw ! My online fundraisers aren’t enough to fix the kibble issue at all… Without help, I’m not sure how long I can continue to handle this situation, I can’t drown in debt forever! If this campaign succeeds, I won’t have to worry about how to get kibble for a while and I could focus on other priorities for them, while alleviating some of my financial stress…”
“I have seen both positive and negative changes, when it comes to animal protection in the area… Although more people are willing to adopt, not all of them are responsible enough to take care of pets, one only has to look at the number of abandonments that remains substantial… It’s still very difficult to find trustworthy people to leave my dogs with!
I want to help all the animals I encounter, but I can only take in a limited number of dogs, as the shelter is already full. So, I only take in dogs with congenital disorders, severe sickness, or those who were victims of accidents, and sometimes, abandoned puppies. These fragile beings keep my motivation intact!
But there are always some individuals who often complain about my actions and about the strays, saying they’re noisy, causing a mess, or a disturbance… While the authorities don't necessarily interfere, they don't provide any help either… Yet I cannot do everything on my own, I need the support from others to continue helping the many vulnerable dogs of the area!”
Animal Webaction has a logistics centre in Morocco which allows us to intervene quickly and deliver kibble throughout the country.
“Sadly, I don't have any current partnerships with other organisations. To make things worse, the person who used to assist me with reaching out to other organisations is no longer available… It's tough to keep everything running smoothly when you're alone in the process, especially with all the ongoing issues that I’m facing. When it comes to the donations I receive, they’ve been continuously dropping due to various factors: with the pandemic, inflation, and all the other issues that people face every day, many struggle to meet their own basic needs, so it's hard for them to donate.
The low resources I have are the reason why I reached out to Animal Webaction! Getting kibble is an ongoing problem as long as I have dogs to take care of… I’ve been helping animals for a very long time and I created this association because I can’t stand seeing their suffering! But I’m just one person, and no matter how much strength I have, I need help. Through this campaign, people can see a glimpse of my work in favour of dogs, which I feel very strongly about. I’ll be so glad for my dogs to receive help!”
