Animal Webaction visited the site 26 April 2023 and confirms the situation described below.
"The biggest difficulty in running this shelter is feeding, or rather finding kibble, for 370 dogs every day! I post very frequently on Facebook, but my recent attempts at fundraising have not worked and unfortunately this is not the exception, but rather the rule... We never have a fixed amount of money to rely on each month; often we don't even get anything at all.
The dogs eat low-quality kibble, because that's all we can afford to buy with our limited funds at the moment. And we have almost nothing left, enough to last 2-3 days maximum, rationing the portions... My dogs are like my children, I feel sad and guilty when I realise that I am not able to provide them with what they need most! I don't sleep, I don't eat, I'm depressed...
I really don't know what tomorrow will bring but all I know is that my dogs will die if I can't feed them! I pray that this campaign will be successful, as it is the only way to solve the kibble problem and avoid a disaster for my dogs..."
"Of course I know that there is a lot of protein, minerals and vitamins missing from the kibble my dogs are eating now, but I'm helpless... I can't buy high quality kibble for 370 dogs without sufficient donations! Worse still, I can't even have a steady supply, and the few kilos I have left are almost gone... If the situation continues, my dogs will be malnourished, lose weight and become more aggressive towards each other. With so many dogs in my care, this prospect terrifies me! Unfortunately, under these conditions, needless to say I cannot rescue other dogs either. This would only fuel the aggressiveness of the dogs in the shelter, and make my problem of supplying kibble even worse...
Sadly for the dogs in my area, there are only 3 options. There is my shelter, the pound or the street. The pound offers a two week window for each dog to be adopted, or put to sleep... The streets offer nothing but pain and suffering... My shelter is not perfect and it is certainly not a real home, but it is the only real chance these dogs have to live a decent life! I wish I could do more, but I can't, until I get a new supply of kibble... and that is why I am knocking on your door. Without this delivery, neither the dogs at my shelter, or the ones on the outside, have a chance to survive:"
"There are many factors that influence the donations we receive. Currently, despite my efforts to keep people informed of our needs and actions on social media, many people are facing financial difficulties, and have stopped donating. Our only regular support comes from a UK organisation, which sponsors 40 of our dogs and facilitates around 4-5 adoptions per month. I know they do their best to help us and I am very grateful, but sadly we need much more to meet the needs of our 370 dogs! This is evidenced by my accumulated debts to the vet station and the pet shop for kibble...
At the local level, we receive no help. The municipality prefers to give money to the pound which euthanises dogs rather than help associations like mine, which really fight for a reasoned and humane management of strays through sterilisation, rehabilitation and adoption. When I look at my dogs, I tell myself that I must continue to fight for them, because I know that I am the only one who can guarantee their safety. Unfortunately, the current lack of resources limits us more than ever in our actions... I often feel ashamed to ask people for help again and again, but I have no choice. I can only hope that this campaign will work as my dogs' lives are at stake!"
"I have dedicated my life to animals for 6 years and in that time I have rescued more than 1000 dogs. Unfortunately, the situation with stray dogs has not improved... The number of stray dogs is increasing because people do not sterilise their dogs and do not understand the importance of sterilisation, even though it is a very simple surgery. I've asked a few owners why they don't sterilise their dogs and they have all sorts of reasons like "the dogs will suffer" or "the dogs will stop barking" or "it's a sin to do this kind of surgery" and of course the cost of the operation. The problem is that unspayed females always end up giving birth to puppies and these same puppies end up abandoned either in the street or at the pound... Today, despite my efforts and the 370 dogs I take care of, the streets are still full of stray dogs, and so is the pound....
For me, all dogs are equal. No matter what predicament I find them in, I will help them all in the same way. But even though I am exposed to abuse and neglect on a regular basis, it doesn't get any easier over time. I don't understand how anyone can beat or kill a dog, it revolts me... I always say: "If you can't help them, leave them alone! Although I can't help all the dogs in my area because of the lack of resources, I know that I have changed the lives of those who have crossed my path. And that's what I'm holding on to!"
Animal Webaction has a logistics centre in Romania which enables us to intervene quickly and deliver kibbles.
"The number of dogs in my care is increasing. Abandonment is a never-ending problem that I could talk about for days... My greatest desire is to save as many dogs as possible, but the lack of resources and adoptions prevents me from achieving this goal. The number of adoptions never exceeds the number of new dogs in need that are brought into the shelter...
Having 370 dogs incurs considerable costs that far outweigh the donations we receive. Unfortunately, the inability to get a regular supply of kibble is just one consequence of this, and the problem we most often face. I really hope this campaign is successful, as I can't see any other option for feeding my dogs in the long term..."
When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the products. The beneficiary doesn't receive anything and the buyers are refunded.
