“At the moment, we have 71 dogs at Lupy shelter and it’s full! We still rescue dogs from the public shelter, but it depends on the number of adoptions that can happen, to make room for new dogs… It’s terrible when you think that there are still so many dogs that need rescuing, whether from the public shelter or from the streets; their sad, pleading eyes haunt us!
But the biggest issue that prevents us from saving more dogs, apart from the lack of space, is the lack of kibble… We’re already cutting on our dogs’ portions, so if more of them arrived, the dogs would have even less to eat! Besides, they eat low-quality kibble that is not nutritious enough. Now, in less than 3 days, there won’t be any kibble left…
The current economic context is really impacting our ability to meet the dogs’ needs – we used to get more donations, but now we don't have enough to get a sustainable kibble supply… It's so stressful when I think about how much the lack of kibble affects our rescue actions. We really need this campaign to succeed to save many dogs’ lives!”
“Feeding the dogs is a big concern for us... I feel very worried about the ones we've recently rescued from the public shelter because they came to us severely underfed, underweight and sick… The combination of low-quality kibble and low amounts prevent the dogs from gaining weight, and they even suffer from diarrhoea...
There are already so many dogs that need saving, and at the moment, we can't help them... Without kibble, our shelter’s dogs’ lives are at risk and those who are the most vulnerable will be the first to suffer. But it will be even worse for the dogs at the public shelter, who are counting on us – they'll be put down if we can't save them! It would be my worst nightmare and this campaign’s success could help us avoid these tragic events!”
“Maia is a sweet, three-year-old female dog who was left at the public shelter by her previous owner… We took her in to give her a better chance at life. Living in a cold environment could have taken a toll on her: indeed, Maia has been struggling with a dreadful skin condition that just won't go away. I’m pretty sure the lack of kibble plays a huge part in this, which is why it is vital for her that this kibble campaign succeeds!”
“Donations have just been dwindling lately while inflation really makes it hard for us to cope: on top of the cost of kibble, we now have to deal with rising costs for veterinary care, utilities, and more… We ask for help in our town, but very few people donate. We don't have any partnerships or collaborations with organisations in our own country, but we’re lucky to work with organisations from other countries like France and Germany. They sometimes help us with kibble, shelter improvements and mostly, adoptions.
We value their precious help but it is insufficient compared to our dogs’ needs… The lack of resources and funding definitely affects our ability to help animals in need; there have been plenty of times when I've worried that we won't be able to keep going because of the lack of means… Being in such an intricate financial situation is a source of stress and it feels like it’s never ending, always going round in circles to the same issues, like the lack of kibble… This campaign’s success will help us relieve the stress and focus more on the dogs’ other needs.”
“My whole life, I've been kind to animals, but my involvement has really ramped up over the past few years. It all started in 2018 when we started building the shelter, and since then, my involvement has only grown. The local administration doesn't seem to care about us at all. Whenever we asked for something, they just ignored us…
Besides, they also haven’t taken part in any sterilisation campaigns, which is crucial for the strays in the area. These dogs’ situation isn't improving much and dogs are continuously abandoned from both the town and nearby villages. People from the countryside even come to our town and abandon their dogs there! Most of these dogs aren’t sterilised and just keep breeding!
We're the only local organised structure that works to protect animals. What we do makes a huge difference. We've saved hundreds of animals, and allowed many of them to get adopted... But we can't do it all on our own – it's impossible! That's why it's so important for people to support our actions and help us make a difference in these animals’ lives.”
