Animal Webaction visited the site 09 July 2023 and confirms the situation described below.
"The situation is getting worse, I frequently find newborn kittens suffering from coryza, or pregnant cats looking for food in the dustbins. I am the only one fighting for these cats, I do everything I can for them, but I am at a standstill.
The price of kibbles and canned food has risen significantly, donations are almost non-existent, and I can no longer buy food for these cats because I can't afford it. I have no remaining stock, and for over 15 days I have been trying to buy a bag as soon as possible. I am forced to ration it as much as possible because they don't eat enough and rummage through the rubbish hoping to satisfy their hunger...
I have a sense of hopelessness and fear for the future, I don't know what it holds for me. I am afraid that this campaign won't succeed, which would be a disaster for me, because it is my only hope right now."
"Wize is a very young cat, only 5 or 6 months old, who appeared in my neighbourhood about two weeks ago. She's suffering from coryza, both her eyes are affected by the disease. I treat her every day and she is starting to get better, luckily I was able to start the treatment at an early stage.
She has no strength and is not used to life on the streets. She is unable to fend for herself and is very fearful. If she is well fed and her eyes are well cared for, she should be able to recover, but without kibble her condition is likely to deteriorate rapidly."
"The cats at the shelter haven't been eating well for several weeks either, they've lost weight and some have started to fall ill very quickly. They fight all the time, the stronger ones eat at the expense of the weaker ones who only get the leftovers.
Of course, they're protected from the dangers of the street at the shelter, and I do my best to provide them with a good environment to live in, but that's not all they need. They also need kibbles, care, and neutering, things I can't provide for them on my own without help.
I am afraid that this situation will last for a long time because my cats will not be able to survive this forced diet, they will end up becoming seriously ill or dying of starvation. The thought of not being able to provide a good environment for my cats makes me sad and depressed, my shelter won't be able to survive without this campaign."
"I found Michou a month ago in the street. He is only three months old but is already totally blind from Coryza. I couldn't save his eyes, unfortunately, it was already too late. I am treating him to help him fight the infection, but he is still very fragile and his condition is precarious.
If I'm no longer able to provide him with kibble, he is going to relapse, which could be fatal for him."
"I am in a vicious circle: I receive a new rescue almost every day, the needs are tremendous, but it has become very rare and unusual to receive a donation and adoptions are non-existent... People are no longer able to make donations and no longer want to adopt a new animal so as not to increase their charges, they are in crisis.
I am piling up unpaid bills at the vets, who sometimes tell me that they will be unable to continue with operations or treatments if I don't pay at least a few overdue bills. The animals sometimes need care that I am unable to provide. I have had to postpone treatments and sterilisations recently for lack of funds, and I can no longer buy kibble.
It's a situation I never thought I would be in, it's overwhelming, I'm heartbroken and my eyes are watering from sorrow because of it, I can't sleep at night thinking about all these responsibilities."
"What motivates me is seeing cats who were suffering heal before my very eyes, it's a source of pride for me. I look after them, vaccinate them and sterilise them to stop their proliferation. I look for people to adopt them and I try to make a difference for them.
Unfortunately, I don't feel that the authorities are making any effort to promote animal welfare and protection in my country. But I can see that people are beginning to understand, little by little, the benefits of sterilisation, and to respect street animals. I have noticed that I'm starting to find little bowls in the street with kibble or at least water, which is very positive."
Animal Webaction has a logistical platform in Morocco, which allows us to intervene quickly and deliver kibble.
"I can't find anyone to help me with neutering, buying kibble, or paying the vet's bills. The charity that usually helps me with neutering is itself suffering from a lack of donations and hasn't been able to help me with neutering for over 4 months. I am trying to find alternatives or organisations that could help me, but I can't find any.
I do online fund-raising and the teaming group helps me from time to time, but it is not enough because my expenses exceed that: buying medicines, neutering, feeding and buying food for the cats in the shelter and those on the street, paying for litter, and all the other costs involved in running the shelter. I need help, without support, I won't be able to carry on.
When a campaign fails, Animal Webaction cannot deliver the collected products, the beneficiary receives nothing and the buyers get a refund...
