"My shelter currently takes in 300 cats. On the streets, with the support of local volunteers, we look after roughly 900 cats. Initially, we had enough stocks of kibble but with the ever-increasing number of street cats and recent rescues at the shelter, our reserves depleted far quicker than anticipated.
Sadly, the present times have severely limited donations, making sourcing kibble even more challenging. This alarming situation worries me, as I know malnutrition jeopardises many cats' health. Without proper nutrition, their immune systems weaken, making them more susceptible to illness.
Every day I witness signs of frailty in some. Their hungry cries are a constant and heartbreaking reminder of the urgency of the situation. I fear daily for their well-being and future, knowing how vital appropriate food is for their survival."
"I can't even fathom the repercussions if we were to run out of kibble completely. Already vulnerable cats would become even weaker. The mere thought of their hunger leading to irreversible health issues shatters my heart. Every day without this vital sustenance puts their survival at risk. Younger cats, still growing, are especially at risk of malnutrition, and our older ones, already delicate, would see their condition worsen.
Outside, desperate stray cats might wander further in search of food, placing them in danger. I'm afraid that in the absence of kibble, some may become more aggressive due to hunger. Tensions often rise among them, with stronger cats seeking to dominate the weaker ones for a meagre share.
The most heart-wrenching part? Watching them deteriorate right before my eyes, feeling powerless. Without this kibble, everything we've built with such love and dedication could collapse. Every day is a race against time, hoping for a better tomorrow for them."
"I've tried everything. The local suppliers I frequently relied on couldn't offer discounts this time around. Despite numerous store visits and attempts at negotiation, it was to no avail. And that's not all. The pandemic hit us doubly hard: donations plummeted, and local media didn't even bother to broadcast our pleas for help.
I considered fundraising events, contemplated sales, all to gather funds for the essential kibble. Yet, these endeavours proved fruitless. While we received promises of support, many turned out to be mere lip service. The feeling of helplessness overwhelms me every time I think of our attempts to buy cat food on credit, constantly denied.
Each setback and refusal amplifies this perpetual struggle. However, I remain hopeful. Communicating our needs is challenging, but my resolve is unwavering. I'll always keep looking for solutions. I'll never give up on them."
"Every time I reduce a serving, I see its toll on my cats. Their well-being and vigour hinge on these regular meals! Without cat food, all our efforts to aid these creatures hang in the balance. Their growth and development are at stake.
Each hungry glance, each persistent mew, tears at my heartstrings. These furry bundles, especially the kittens, are the most vulnerable. They require abundant energy to grow and thrive. Mothers give their all to feed their young, but without cat food, their milk dwindles and their vitality wanes.
Each day without cat food is like a ticking clock, a mounting emergency. The reality is harsh, and faced with this predicament, I often feel powerless. Further rationing meals jeopardises the cats in my care, whether at the sanctuary or on the streets. I can't bear it! Every stray, every cat brought in from the streets, deserves a full bowl of kibble!"
"My dedication to these cats has never wavered. Through my eyes, one can see memories of those I've saved, and painfully, those I've lost. My hands bear the scars of countless battles, each marking a tale of love or pain.
Each day presents a new mountain to climb, often a solitary journey. The sanctuary, despite its numerous residents, sometimes echoes with the heavy silence of loneliness. It's a silent anguish, shedding tears for every lost feline. There are victories that warm the heart, but every loss leaves an indelible mark, a scar. These cats are like my children; losing any one of them feels like heartbreak.
Despite the challenges, the solitude, and the times when all seems lost, my hope never fades. Even in the darkest moments, it shines brightly, reminding me why I do this, why I persist. For them."
