Animal Webaction visited the site 19 August 2023 and confirms the situation described below.
"We're at the end of our rope. The shelter is overflowing with 530 dogs, and all of them, without exception, depend on the kibble we provide. Unfortunately, our stock is far from inexhaustible and is dwindling at an alarming rate... Every time I take portions, I realize that I'm rationing more and more. It's heartbreaking to see their hopeful eyes, knowing they don't have enough to eat.
Hunger changes them, they become aggressive, fights break out... They're good dogs; they're just pushed to their limits because they're hungry. And every day, their health seems to deteriorate a little more. Their fur isn't as shiny, their eyes aren't as bright and they've lost their energy. The problem is that our debts make it impossible to buy any more kibble at the moment.
I hate to admit it, but my heart is heavy. I feel so helpless to see them suffer like this. This campaign is like a ray of hope in these difficult times. I hope with all my heart that it will help us out of this crisis and enable us to feed our dogs as we should. We have to. For them."
"The lack of kibble is unbearable; every time I look at my dogs, the weight of the situation hits me hard. I can already see the effects of malnutrition, and faced with the imminent shortage of kibble, I'm afraid their health will collapse... My heart sinks at the thought of their bodies losing even more weight, and of them falling ill...
Worse still, they're already getting nervous, and without enough kibble, they'll probably fight even more often. Seeing them weaken, not only physically but also spiritually, devastates me. Their pain becomes my pain. And if we run out of kibble, how can I think of saving any more? At the shelter, we welcome every dog with the promise of a better life, but right now, it's impossible for us to keep that commitment...."
"I've lost count of the number of potential sponsors I've contacted, hoping, praying, only to be met again and again with disappointment.... You'd think that with all the companies out there, someone would be willing to help, but unfortunately, our efforts to get help often come up against walls of indifference.
We're already in debt with our kibble supplier and the vet, and with the price of food and services continuing to rise, we're paralyzed. Our only ray of hope is our regular donors; but even with their unwavering support, their contributions cover only a fraction of our needs. And despite our attempts to make our actions known to as many people as possible, the results are far from meeting our needs.
It's a hard pill to swallow, knowing that the situation is so dire and public awareness so low. Every day I wake up determined to make a difference, but sometimes it feels like I'm climbing an ever-growing mountain, or shouting into the void..."
"Everything we do at the shelter is linked to a regular supply of kibble. First and foremost, the health and vitality of our 530 dogs depend on it! Many of them, if not all, arrived here terribly weakened, emaciated, ill... weakened. Regular feeding is really what makes the difference between their recovery, or further decline. That's the sad reality.
Besides, a bowl full of kibble isn't just food. It's hope! It's another day when dogs can regain their strength. It's the glue that keeps everything running smoothly here. But when our reserves run low, as they are now, that's when the weight of responsibility really kicks in. The very essence of why we created this shelter feels threatened. Seeing our dogs fight because of hunger is a sight we'd like never to experience again, but to avoid it, everything depends on our ability to get kibble..."
"The dogs I've rescued mean everything to me, they're my world. Day after day, from the moment I open my eyes until I fall asleep, my mind and heart are consumed by the mission to save them. Yet, no matter how hard I try, no matter how much I love them, the constant need for kibble is always there, like a threatening shadow...
Sometimes I feel like I'm drowning in the immensity of the situation. It's such a noble cause, but the grief and loneliness that come with it can be overwhelming. And that loneliness is so much heavier when I can't even offer them the essentials... When I look into their eyes, it's clear that their lives and futures are bound up with mine. Their tails are wagging, their eyes are confident, they're counting on me.
It's not just about kibble; it's about the silent promise we've made to each of them; the promise of a new chance. We are their pillar, and we can't let them down, no matter how hard the road ahead may be...."
