Animal Webaction visited the site 22 August 2023 and confirms the situation described below.
"Summer is here, and so is the vacation season, and with it comes a considerable increase in the number of abandonments. It's incredible to see how easy it is for some families to let go of their four-legged companions... It's also 'mange season', and many dogs are abandoned because of this dermatitis, either because the family thinks their dog can transmit the disease to them, or because they don't have enough money to treat it.
The situation at the shelter is catastrophic: the shelter is saturated, and many dogs are ill. Many are also waiting to be sterilized, but the lack of donations and kibble is completely paralyzing my actions. All these dogs are counting on me, and the pressure is enormous. They're more than just animals, they're lives, stories, companions who didn't get the chance they deserved. I'd do anything for them, but this situation weighs heavily on me, and the anguish of not being able to satisfy their basic needs, especially kibble, is eating me up inside... We need help!"
"For the past two weeks, every morning has become a race against time. My stock of kibble is running out at an alarming rate, and I find myself rationing every portion. I supplement their bowls with soaked bread to try to satiate them. But I can see it's not enough. The dogs show signs of malnutrition and become more irritable, even aggressive. I hear their growls, I see their tense bodies, and my greatest fear is that tensions will degenerate into fights.
In this electric atmosphere, I'm also forced to limit new rescues. And for lack of funds, I can't treat or sterilize street dogs either. It's a heartbreaking reality: I opened this shelter to save these poor creatures, and now I'm powerless in the face of an empty bowl.
Every night, I'm overcome with anxiety at the thought of not being able to offer my dogs a decent life. It's not just a question of kibble. It's a daily battle for their well-being, for their health, to give them a second chance. Worry for the future gnaws at me, and the idea of finding myself alone without support terrifies me."
"Dane is a young male about 3 years old, he was just a bag of bones when I found him... Unfortunately, he's suffering from mange. He's on medication and starting to heal, but he's still very weak and emaciated. He spends most of his time lying down, he's very calm; or rather, lethargic... Reduced portions of kibble mixed with soggy bread won't help him get better... He needs a diet rich in nutrients, and in sufficient quantities to survive!"
"There are more and more abandoned dogs and the consequences are becoming serious. The city is saturated with stray dogs and, at the same time, my shelter is full. Unfortunately, I don't have enough money to take care of all these dogs. I haven't received any donations lately, only promises in the air... I find myself obliged to finance everything myself concerning my shelter and my dogs: sterilizations, treatments, operations, kibbles, rent payments, salaries, work... I deprive myself of many things to be able to contribute to the well-being of the dogs, but my resources are limited.
I have a lot of debts with my vet and I can no longer buy kibble... The only regular support I receive is a donation of 450€ per quarter from an association, but unfortunately this isn't enough to feed my dogs on a daily basis. I no longer have the money to pay my two employees, so I can only keep one. I'm also finding it difficult to get back and forth to the shelter because the price of petrol has gone up."
The lack of donations and support, the lack of money, all this has had a very tangible negative impact on my shelter and my actions... I'm saddled with debt, I won't get by without support. I'm fighting alone for these dogs, and Animal Webaction is the only organization that helps me get kibble... This campaign is vital for my dogs!"
"Since I was a child, animals have always held a special place in my heart. My love for them only grew after my first rescues. Today, I strive to capture these abandoned dogs who are helpless, having never lived on the streets. Once rescued, I welcome them into my shelter, sterilize them, treat them and try to find them a loving family.
Without my actions, the Azemmour and Tnin Chtouka districts would be full of abandoned dogs... But abandonment is far from being the worst fate that can befall them. Recently, I discovered a dog thrown into a garbage can, locked in a bag, barely alive, on the verge of death. These visions haunt me and, as common as they are, I could never get used to them.
With so many dogs depending on me, the anguish of seeing them starve, after all they've already been through, grips me every day. Every bowl is a reminder of the enormity of the task and my commitment to them..."
