"In three days, the little kibble we have left will run out. The dogs are already eating reduced rations, and the quality... it pains me to say it, but it's not good. Some of them are already showing signs of weakening, diarrhea. Every time I feed them, I wonder how much longer they'll be able to go on like this... And that goes for the shelter dogs as well as the street dogs, of which I take care of by the dozens!
The recent rise in the cost of kibble has brought us to our knees financially. Previously, our mission was clear: to rescue street dogs, feed them, care for them, sterilize them and offer them a dignified life. But today, kibble has become an insurmountable obstacle. Faced with this reality, I can't even take in new dogs; how could I feed them?
Every time I think of the days to come, this image haunts me: empty bowls, and dogs looking at me expectantly, waiting for food that never comes. I hope this campaign can make a difference for them. It's my only hope of renewing the kibble stock and feeding them..."
"If I can't get kibble, I'm afraid the dogs will quickly develop deficiencies, leaving them vulnerable to all kinds of diseases. Their immunity is already weakened and in this context, their ability to fight external parasites and viruses is no longer as effective.
What's more, I can already see that some of them are becoming aggressive. Tension is mounting, and there are times when I hear growling... The fear of an imminent fight torments me. A small wound, which could have healed quickly, could also become infected and worsen if they don't boost their immunity!
Street dogs are even more vulnerable. Without kibble, they could be tempted to eat garbage, ingesting toxic or even deadly substances. Some might stray from their familiar territories in search of food, exposing themselves to increased risk of accidents. Every minute that passes, I feel their survival is threatened. I want so much to offer them the best, and this powerlessness in the face of their situation is an unbearable ordeal for me..."
"I've asked so many friends and family to help. Their will is there, but their means are just as limited as mine. Even my regular appeals on social networks aren't working, as spontaneous donations from the public have dropped sharply. For a while, I hoped for partnerships with kibble manufacturers, but no doors have opened.
Unfortunately, the Serbian government doesn't offer any support programs for our cause. My letters to influential people also went unanswered. Even my attempts to gain more sponsorship for the dogs did not have the desired effect.
The debts keep piling up. The vet is still waiting for his payment, and every day brings a new batch of unpaid charges. I had considered setting up a subscription system for donations, but here again, the take-up has been meagre. My energy is sorely tested, and every effort, every step, to find solutions seems to lead to a dead end. Yet, it's not the financial pressure that scares me most. It's the vision of empty bowls..."
"The situation of the dogs I take under my wing is becoming more worrying by the day. Without their usual portion of kibble, their already fragile health is being eroded even further. My vet bills are mounting, as the cost of caring for these increasingly vulnerable dogs continues to rise. The shortage of kibble even deprives me of the possibility of taking in new dogs in distress. I feel paralyzed, unable to intervene as I would like to, to help as I used to.
Kibble is more than a simple meal, it is the first need to be covered, before any other. It is irreplaceable and essential for their survival, to maintain their health and strengthen their immune system. I fight every day to improve the situation for these dogs. But without kibble, I have to watch helplessly as their condition deteriorates; a situation I had worked so hard to improve. The viability of my shelter, and the survival of the dogs in my care, are now directly threatened..."
"I witness scenes on a daily basis that most people can only imagine... The situations I face on the streets or in rubbish dumps haunt me day and night. I often feel alone in my fight for these dogs, and often wonder if the world really cares about them...
Every dog I manage to save is a ray of hope, a victory against indifference. And it's a reminder that, even in solitude, even in the face of criticism, my mission is essential. These dogs deserve more than the world gives them! The gratitude in a rescued dog's eyes is my true reward, my constant reminder of the importance of what I do; and my only reason to persevere.
Few realize the magnitude of my daily challenge. The pressure is omnipresent, but the prospect of saving even one more dog gives me the energy to keep going. Even though the world often seems indifferent, I remain hopeful, because for me, every life counts!"
