"For the past two weeks, the situation has been getting worse for the street cats in my care. Their kibble reserves are dwindling at an alarming rate. I look at them and I can see how thin they are becoming, a clear sign of their malnutrition. These kibbles used to be their main source of sustenance, but these days they're sadly content with whatever scraps I can find for them. The distress doesn't stop there. Several of them are showing symptoms of illness linked to this cruel lack of appropriate food. I've noticed infections breaking out in some of them, and I fear that with their immune systems weakened by the lack of kibble, their recovery will become even more complicated.
Without kibble, the situation takes an even darker turn. I notice that tensions are rising among them. They used to share in harmony, but now I'm witnessing fights over a piece of food. Every altercation is a stab in the back for me. They're vulnerable, and without the essential kibble, I'm afraid some of them won't last long.
I dread the day when I arrive and discover that one of them has succumbed to a lack of kibble. These creatures depend on me to eat, and I feel powerless in the face of this reality. Without these kibbles, it's a whole ecosystem, a whole community of cats that collapses."
“Without kibble, the situation becomes bleak for the street cats I try to support. The leftovers that I manage to scrounge up, far from being adapted to their diet, do not provide them with essential nutrients. I fear the lasting consequences of this diet on their health. Progressive deterioration of their liver, kidney problems, potential anemia due to lack of iron... the implications are vast and worrying. Their immunity could be further weakened, exacerbating the likelihood of disease and infection transmission between cats.
The expected shortage of kibble will only amplify these risks. A feeling of worry passes through me when I think of the increased tensions between cats over these scarce resources. Hunger might even lead them to ingest toxic substances, in their desperate quest to soothe their stomachs. And what haunts me the most is the idea that their weakness makes them less able to flee dangers, increasing the risk of finding them injured.
My biggest fear, the one that I hardly dare to mention, is finding lifeless bodies because of a lack of kibble. This thought chills my heart, reminding me of the crucial importance of kibble for these vulnerable animals.”
“I've sent out many SOS messages on social media, I've reached out to local businesses and distributed leaflets and posters to raise awareness about these cats. I've even set up collection bins in supermarkets and donation boxes in veterinary clinics. Despite all of these efforts, the bins and boxes remain empty. Local suppliers haven't been able to offer discounts for bulk kibble purchases, and even the most heart-rending stories about the cats haven't managed to gather enough support on social media.
Words can't convey my disappointment, my concern. Kibble is so much more than just food for these cats. Without it, their very survival is under threat. Malnutrition, disease and infections are just some of the looming dangers they face. Seeing them suffer and know the implications of this shortage on their health is heart-wrenching.
I dread the day when this situation may spiral out of control. These cats' survival is my top priority, but despite my best attempts at getting help, the community has not met this emergency. And despite all my efforts, I can't manage their needs alone. It's not for lack of trying... The cats' future is at stake and every day without kibble makes their survival all the more precarious.”
“Distributing kibble to street cats is far more than a simple act of generosity. Kibble provides them with the vital nutrients needed for their survival, warding off the risk of diseases linked to improper diet. Regularly fed cats also show fewer internal parasites and are less prone to infections. Moreover, the kibble helps to maintain a certain harmony among them, preventing food competition and the conflicts that arise from it.
When giving them kibble, I'm doing more than just feeding them; I'm also building a bond with them. These feeding sessions are crucial for their socialisation and allow me to closely observe their health and behaviour. Because of this ritual, I can see how far some of the once fearful ones have come.
Yet, despite the undeniable impact of kibble, its availability is in jeopardy. My commitment to these cats, my will to make a difference, it all boils down to kibble. Without it, I fear I won't be able to maintain this delicate balance and watch these animals decline.”
“In Morocco, every street corner reveals a reality I can't ignore: stray cats, abandoned, in distress. Each glance they shoot my way strengthens my commitment to them. Sadly, support for these animals here is often lacking. In a world where resources are already sparse, finding help becomes a constant struggle. This mission can sometimes feel solitary, surrounded by a society that doesn't always understand the depth of my dedication to these innocent beings.
Sleepless nights are often marked with incessant wondering. How can I ensure the wellbeing of these cats in such a hostile environment? Despite the mistrust or misunderstanding of some locals, giving up is not an option. These animals rely on me, and the thought of abandoning them to fend for themselves on the streets is unbearable.
Although encouragement is scarce, each positive word received is a balm for my weary soul. Their future is uncertain, and each day I realise how much my ability to protect these cats depends on my perseverance and determination.”
