"At the shelter and on the city streets, I'm surrounded by dogs who depend on me for their survival and daily meals, there are currently 62 in my shelter, and 50 strays under my care to be exact. Lately, a big problem has arisen: there simply isn't enough kibble for everyone. I've tried to cope by feeding each dog a little less, but it's hard to watch them lose weight.
The lack of kibble not only makes them hungry, but also aggressive. The stray dogs have also started fighting amongst themselves over the little kibble I give them, which is really sad to see. If I can't find a way to get more kibble, some of the dogs may not make it, and all the hard work I've done so far to save them could come crashing down.
Even those I've managed to save and bring to the shelter aren't safe, because if the kibble runs out, they could become very ill, or even worse. The needs are real and time is running out for all the dogs who depend on me!"
"I'm worried about the dwindling supply of kibble, I fear terrible consequences for the dogs. Stray dogs could wander off in search of food, risking ingesting harmful substances out of desperation and hunger. This could make them sick, or even be fatal, depending on what they ingest. One thing is certain: they will inexorably weaken, and in a city, weakness is dangerous. They could be too weakened to escape cars and other urban hazards. And even a small injury could become a serious problem if they don't have the strength to heal...
I'm also worried about the increase and escalation of fights. It's like a big black cloud hanging over me. Today is already a difficult day, but without kibble, tomorrow could be insurmountable. A world where dogs can't find enough to eat, or get hurt and can't heal... It's a bleak future for them, which, sadly, is becoming more and more real every day."
"I made a lot of effort to find more kibble. I talked to suppliers, hoping to negotiate lower prices, but they refused. I organized collection events where people could bring some, but these initiatives didn't bear fruit. Even when I asked city officials for help, there was no response.
I did try selling some of my possessions to buy kibble, but it didn't work, and I don't have much of value to sell anyway. I can see that the dogs need help. They look at me, I know they're hungry and can't understand why there's less food. They need kibble, not only to fill their bellies and not go hungry, but also and above all, to stay strong and healthy!"
"Kibble is the basis of everything. First and foremost, they fill dogs' bellies and help keep them healthy and happy. But a lack of kibble doesn't just mean hungry bellies; it also pauses the rescue of other dogs waiting to be helped. We can't take them in, not when there's not enough food to go around!
The lack of kibble is a constant preoccupation, to which I devote all my time and which pushes everything else into the background, unfortunately. I feel stuck. The work I do to help dogs and the community become familiar with animals becomes really difficult when I have to focus all my energy on finding kibble.
And then, without kibble, my advocacy, my pleas for support and understanding for these dogs, seems less convincing. How can I say I'm doing all I can when my kibble reserves are empty and my dogs are hungry? My commitment, which was once the promise of a better life for stray dogs, now feels like a tightrope I'm trying to walk, but which is becoming more wobbly by the day..."
"Every day, from sunup to sundown, I work hard to make sure the dogs in my care are okay. It's my promise, my commitment to them, and it conditions every part of my day. But even when I rescue a dog and bring it to the safety of the shelter, I sometimes get discouraged. There are so many other dogs who need help, and the problems they face just keep getting worse!
Even though it's a very difficult journey, I keep moving forward. The kind words and pats on the back from understanding friends keep my spirits up. They help me believe in a future where all animals can live happily and be treated with kindness. My fight doesn't stop, I keep looking forward, trying to reach a time and place where every dog is happy and safe, even if it seems a long way off for now..."
