Animal Webaction visited the site 08 October 2023 and confirms the situation described below.
"At the moment, the 178 dogs in the shelter are eating leftovers mixed with chicken. The situation with the street dogs is even worse; I can only give them old bread at the moment. I can see that this diet is not suitable for them. The street dogs are famished, tension is mounting and fights are becoming more and more frequent.
The problem is that as there isn't enough kibble, I can't bring new dogs into the shelter! This situation is untenable. This kibble problem must be resolved as a matter of urgency, otherwise the situation will get even worse for the dogs, whether they're at the shelter or on the street. If nothing changes, I don't know how much longer the dogs will be able to go on like this..."
"The lack of kibble is taking an increasingly worrying turn for the dogs I promised to protect. More than just a temporary problem, the lack of kibble could lead to a downward spiral in dogs' health, permanently weakening their immune systems. They would then be more likely to fall ill, even from minor illnesses that would not otherwise be a problem.
The weakest dogs are the most at risk. Without kibble, they can't fight or defend themselves against other, more dominant dogs. What's more, injuries combined with a weakened immune system would make their survival more than uncertain... The total absence of kibble would be catastrophic, resulting in a major loss among the dogs. I'm constantly grappling with this reality, and more aware than ever of the urgent need to find kibble!"
"I've tried many things to improve the kibble situation. Petitioning the government, starting a membership program, negotiating with kibble distributors, none of it has borne fruit. I even tried working with restaurants in the hope of getting kibble donations, but that didn't work either. In short, all my efforts and endeavors failed to achieve the goal: kibble for the dogs in my care.
The impending shortage of kibble is a hard reality to swallow. It's not just a question of a lack of answers or funds. It's about the dogs who are suffering. These animals depend on the food I can provide. The situation is grave and pressing, and it's a burden I carry every day, knowing that their survival is at stake. Without this essential resource, the dogs risk a rapid deterioration in their health, irreparably affecting their quality of life and life expectancy. The situation is serious, and the consequences, if nothing changes, will be dramatic."
"Kibble isn't just food; it's the backbone that keeps everything running. It prevents dogs from suffering from malnutrition and preserves their overall health. Without kibble, dogs struggle more; they're desperate and can't understand why their food isn't arriving.
A regular supply of kibble is so crucial that it even affects our ability to rescue new dogs. If there's enough kibble, I can concentrate on other aspects of their care, such as medical treatment or finding adopters. But when the kibble runs out, all these other projects are put on hold and the future becomes uncertain. Everything else comes to an abrupt halt, jeopardizing lives we could have saved".
"All my life and all my energy are devoted to the neglected dogs of my region. In normal times, when kibble is not in short supply, new dogs arrive at the shelter almost daily, a sign of a crisis that is worsening and not abating... The harsh reality is that not enough is being done to help these dogs in my country. The challenges are enormous, and help is scarce. There aren't enough hands on deck, not enough people who care about these dogs or even recognize the scale of the problem.
The few people who support us are a ray of hope in an often discouraging situation. Their contributions enable me to persevere, even if the end of each day brings a mixture of exhaustion and determination. Although every day is a struggle, my commitment to these dogs never wavers. I can't afford to give up; their survival depends on my efforts! "
