Animal Webaction visited the site 08 December 2023 and confirms the situation described below.
"I currently look after 65 dogs at the shelter, and around 300 on the streets. Recently, the number of animals in my care has increased, exacerbating the challenges I face. The stock of kibble is completely exhausted... This situation forces me to resort to makeshift solutions to feed the dogs.
At the shelter, I feed them chicken carcasses, but this is far from adequate. For street dogs, the situation is even more precarious: they have to make do with hard bread... It's clear that neither the shelter dogs nor the street dogs eat enough, or properly. The dogs are starving, and the signs of this nutritional distress are visible: weight loss, increasing weakness, and in the most alarming cases, diseases develop and some dogs succumb. Tensions rise, fights become frequent, revealing desperation and the struggle for survival...
Faced with this crisis, we can no longer contemplate saving any more dogs, as our ability to do so is totally destroyed by the lack of kibble. Seeing these animals suffer and fight for survival, knowing that we could help them with simple kibble, is a source of deep distress. And without urgent help, the situation will only get worse..."
"The shortage of kibble is plunging our dogs, both those at the shelter and those on the streets, into a situation of deep distress. In addition to weight loss and rampant illness, the frequency of fights is also increasing, reflecting a desperate struggle for survival. The sight of these dogs, once full of life and now weakened and ill, is a constant reminder of the gravity of their situation.
Alas, the lack of kibble also has repercussions beyond the present. The mayor's office is considering resuming the culling of street dogs if the situation persists, an appalling prospect that would condemn them to a tragic fate... At the shelter, where I have rescued many dogs when the kibble supply was stable, I now find myself unable to continue these rescues. What's more, if this situation persists, I may be forced to release the shelter's dogs onto the streets...
Every day that goes by without kibble increases the danger for these animals... I fight for them every day, but without urgent support, their survival is in peril! A poignant reminder of the fragility of their existence..."
"In my quest to feed the dogs, I've tried several approaches. I launched appeals for donations on social networks and organized online collections, but the responses fell far short of our needs. Similarly, my online videos, designed to raise awareness of the shortage of kibble and the plight of the dogs, didn't generate the attention or donations we'd hoped for.
I set up collection boxes in several stores. Unfortunately, these boxes didn't raise enough money. I tried to negotiate reduced prices with suppliers, to no avail. Even requests for help from local authorities went unanswered, reinforcing my sense of powerlessness.
This series of failures plunges us into an alarming situation. The dogs in the shelter and on the streets depend entirely on us for their food, and every day without kibble increases their suffering. Watching them grow weaker day after day is a crushing emotional burden. Our dogs, weakened and malnourished, struggle to survive, while we struggle to find solutions..."
"The kibble shortage impacts every aspect of our operations. We are forced to prioritize care between dogs... Routine procedures, such as vaccinations, are delayed, as the dogs are not in the optimum state of health to withstand them. Their immune systems weaken, and without proper nutrition, their ability to fight infection also diminishes considerably.
Without kibble, it's impossible for us to train dogs for adoption. This training is crucial to their integration into new homes, but without proper nutrition, their health and behavior remain unstable, making adoption much more difficult. What's more, every dog that stays at the shelter longer limits our capacity to take in new ones... As the person in charge of the shelter, I feel deeply affected by this situation. It's simple, without kibble, I'm unable to save and improve the lives of these dogs!"
"In my fight to save dogs, I often feel an overwhelming loneliness. In a country where the animal cause is not yet a priority, the challenges are multiplied tenfold, exacerbated by a crying lack of local support. Every day is a battle to find the resources needed to keep the shelter afloat.
This mission, though onerous and often daunting, is driven by a deep conviction in the value of every animal life. These dogs deserve a better life, and their fate depends on my ability to overcome these obstacles! I find the strength to persevere, buoyed by the hope that tomorrow I'll be a little closer to my goal.
Successes, though infrequent, are moments of pure joy. They renew my hope and give me the strength to carry on. Every little gesture of help, every sign of solidarity, is a breath of fresh air in this exhausting battle. These moments of support remind me that I'm not completely alone..."
