Animal Webaction visited the site 17 December 2023 and confirms the situation described below.
"There are currently 134 dogs in our shelter, and the numbers are growing all the time. People are abandoning them on our doorstep... Recently, 11 dogs were dumped outside the shelter! Unfortunately, donations are low and winter is getting tougher. We're afraid we won't be able to save more dogs because we don't have enough resources, or enough kibble...
It really hurts me. Theoretically, we could save more dogs, but when I think of the state of our kibble stock, how could I? How am I going to feed them? I'm really stressed, I can't sleep because of it. I'm afraid for the dogs in the shelter, and for those outside who still need us...
For my part, I can make do with a slice of bread for my meal, but I want the best for the dogs. The most important thing in the world to me is that they are well fed and happy. All I want is for them to have full bellies!"
"We do everything we can to feed our dogs. Unfortunately, at the moment all we can afford to give them are low-quality kibbles and a few bones... It's hard to provide them with a balanced diet in these conditions. Unfortunately, we don't have enough money to change suppliers and buy better kibble. We're barely getting by...
In winter, dogs need more food to maintain their body temperature, stay healthy and calm. If we don't manage to stock up on kibble soon, I'm afraid they'll start fighting or get sick! If any of the dogs get hurt, sick, need special food or treatment, it would be catastrophic for them and for us, who are already short of funds... How are we going to manage this and feed them all? The success of this campaign is vital for our dogs!"
"Our donations are low, they're almost non-existent. We try to ask for help on Facebook and Instagram but it's not very conclusive, we haven't even managed to get vaccines for our endangered dogs. As for kibble, we've only received 120 kilos in 4 months...
Unfortunately, none of our dogs has been adopted recently. We have problems with the supply of kibble and veterinary debts. We don't know where to find money, and the local population and Internet users are not reacting. They know how much we need and they don't help us, they can't. It's very difficult. It's very difficult.
My pension isn't very high and a large part of it goes to pay for the dogs' medication. We've really seen better days... We need all the help we can get to get through the winter and ensure our dogs' survival!"
"I was living abroad and when I came back to Serbia, I was confronted with a lot of animal misery on the streets. It's very difficult for me to see dogs in poor conditions, mistreated, abandoned or neglected... I felt the need to help them. I opened this shelter in 2019 with just a few dogs, but their numbers quickly grew. This place had nothing to begin with; I built everything for them.
I wish I could save them all, and make sure no one could hurt them. I'd like them to have more space, more greenery, a place to play, so they can be more carefree and have fun. Unfortunately, my financial resources limit me a lot, as does my health...
I'm ill, I can't rescue the dogs myself and I can't go out and feed the dogs on the street. I can no longer drive and have to use a wheelchair... I wish I could hit the road and help more dogs, but I can't do it myself. Fortunately, I have an employee who really loves dogs, which is a blessing in itself. People here don't generally care about dogs. They look at animals in terms of their usefulness and that's it. This is also why the number of adoptions is so low... That's the sad reality we face!"
