Animal Webaction visited the site 28 December 2023 and confirms the situation described below.
"The situation of the 95 stray cats in my care is becoming critical. Their numbers have increased recently, and with them my difficulties in providing for them! My already limited stock of kibble will only last a few days. These croquettes, of mediocre quality, are all I have for them...
This lack of food has alarming consequences for the cats' health. They lose weight and become weaker. Malnutrition has made them vulnerable to various diseases. Some, unfortunately, have not survived...
I'm at the end of my tether, both financially and emotionally. My resources are insufficient and donations are scarce. My debts to the vet are piling up, making the situation even worse... Seeing these cats suffer and their state of health decline because of the lack of kibble fills me with deep concern. I fear the worst for them..."
"If I don't find some kibble for the street cats in my care soon, even more drastic consequences will soon be felt. The spread of disease will accelerate dangerously, and all my efforts to monitor, care for and control the population will be wiped out. The most vulnerable, especially kittens and elderly cats, could succumb in large numbers...
Worse still, the desperate search for food could push the cats to venture further afield, putting them at risk from vehicles and other urban threats. What's more, by wandering far in search of food, they could attract the attention of the authorities and risk being captured, which would be tantamount to a death sentence! Every day without kibble brings these cats closer to a tragic outcome... Only this campaign can turn the tide!"
"My efforts to obtain kibble have all ended in failure... My appeals for donations on social networks have gone unanswered, leaving me at a dead end. I've tried to contact associations for help, but they too are facing similar difficulties. Even the Belgian charity that supports me can't help me as much as it used to, and donations are increasingly rare.
I've tried selling items to finance the purchase of kibbles, but the funds raised are derisory given the scale of the needs. To make matters worse, the shops and kibble suppliers refuse to give me the slightest discount on their prices!
One failure after another... Every day I'm faced with an increasingly insurmountable challenge. I feel overwhelmed and alone in this struggle. As for the cats, they don't understand the complexity of the situation, they only see their growing hunger!"
"The constant availability of kibble is crucial to my work with street cats. Without it, the cats' health deteriorates and the veterinary care I provide becomes less effective, as good nutrition is essential for the healing and recovery of sick cats. This shortage also hampers my sterilisation efforts, which are essential to keep the cat population under control.
The shortage of kibble leads to increased competition for resources and reduces the cats' ability to live together peacefully. This situation threatens the already fragile balance of the colonies and reduces the tolerance, already quite relative, of the inhabitants towards them...
So the impending shortage of kibble is not only threatening the survival of these cats, it's shaking up an entire urban ecosystem! Without this delivery, the future looks even more difficult for street cats: their well-being, their health and even their lives are at stake, with repercussions for the whole community..."
"I fight every day for the health and well-being of the street cats in my town, and against the prejudice and sometimes even hostility of those who don't understand the importance of my work. Most people here see stray cats as an inconvenience rather than a shared responsibility... But what they don't realise is that, beyond immediate care, my role is essential in limiting the proliferation of cats on the streets!
I'm getting tired, both physically and mentally, because I'm carrying this mission alone. I struggle to draw attention to the plight of street cats, but the general indifference here makes my mission that much more complex. Preventing stray cat overpopulation requires a coordinated and sustained approach, involving regular care, sterilisation programmes and community involvement. Without the necessary support from the community or outside organisations, achieving this goal becomes increasingly difficult..."
