"With costs continuing to rise, buying new kibble is becoming a Herculean task. Our reserves are being depleted at an alarming rate, exacerbated by the constant influx of new dogs. Each new arrival means less food for everyone, and our attempts at rationing are proving inadequate in the face of this increase!
Reduced food portions have a direct and harmful impact on our dogs' health. Their emaciated bodies now betray constant hunger. At the same time, veterinary debts are mounting, dramatically reducing our financial capacity to buy kibble. The lack of donations only exacerbates this crisis, leaving us powerless to cope with the growing shortage...
Without outside help, buying extra kibble is becoming an increasingly remote possibility, and the survival of our dogs, weakened by the lack of food, is increasingly uncertain...".
"The threat of a total shortage of kibble looms over our shelter, and with it devastating consequences for our dogs... The dogs' immunity is already weakening and illnesses are becoming more frequent. I fear that in the near future, diseases could proliferate if we don't remedy the lack of kibble quickly!
Older dogs, who are particularly vulnerable, feel this deficiency the most. Their already fragile health only worsens without adequate nutrition. The prospect of seeing them wither away before my very eyes for lack of kibble is an unbearable thought... Every day, the risk of health complications increases, making veterinary care not only more urgent but also more expensive.
What haunts me most is the fear of losing dogs... This fear has become my daily routine, a constant presence that reminds me of the urgency of our situation. Without this kibble delivery, the future of our dogs is at stake!"
"We have made repeated appeals on social media to try and obtain kibble, but the responses have been few and far between. We have tried to negotiate instalments with our kibble suppliers but they demand immediate payment. We've even tried cutting other shelter costs, hoping to allocate more of the budget to kibble. However, this strategy is proving insufficient.
The prospect of applying for a bank loan has crossed our minds, but the risk of going further into debt is a burden we can't contemplate... Government aid is non-existent... Even our attempts to raise awareness have met with limited interest, failing to mobilise the necessary attention for our cause.
Our efforts to overcome the kibble crisis seem to be in vain, plunging the team and myself into growing despair. Every day, I stand face to face with our dogs, deeply afraid of losing them, not through illness or accident, but simply through lack of kibble! This has become my daily reality; my sad reality..."
"Managing our shelter on a daily basis without a stable supply of kibble is a colossal challenge. Our efforts to care for the dogs are constantly hampered by the incessant search for kibble. Preserving the health of our protégés is becoming an increasingly difficult battle to win...
This shortage forces us to make difficult decisions. Recently, it was with great sadness that we had to refuse several rescues due to a lack of resources to feed new arrivals... Every time we say no, it's a life we can't save! What's more, expansion of the shelter, which is essential in view of the growing demand for care for dogs in distress, remains a distant dream because of our limited resources...
In addition to the financial challenges we're facing, I'm also confronted with major personal health issues. These circumstances are forcing me - intermittently - to reduce my direct involvement with our protégés. (Editor's note: We were accompanied on the visit by Ibtissam's right-hand man at the shelter). The day-to-day running of the shelter is maintained by my dedicated team, but having to distance myself from these animals that I love so much causes me immense grief! Having the guarantee of a new supply of kibble would be a blessing and a huge relief... Without kibble it's our mission, our passion, and the fate of these innocent animals that are at stake!"
"Every day, I carry the burden of survival for hundreds of dogs, both in the shelter and on the streets. My dedication to these animals comes up against limited resources and support that is not enough to cover their needs. Faced with the ever-increasing number of dogs needing our help, the responsibility I feel is immense and sometimes overwhelming...
It's heartbreaking not to be able to save every dog, for lack of resources. This sadness is with me all the time. However, each success, however rare, becomes a precious treasure and a reminder of why we are continuing this fight.
I fight to stay strong, to overcome the loneliness and hardships that mark our days, to keep fighting for these animals who only have us. Every dog that finds a loving family is a victory! Our fight for these dogs is a never-ending quest, but it's a quest that we're determined to pursue... We just need a bit more support and, above all, some kibble to help us get there!"
