Animal Webaction visited the site 06 February 2024 and confirms the situation described below.
"We are facing a dire situation, one we always hoped we would avoid. We have 126 dogs under our care, and absolutly no kibble left whatsoever. Our debts have mounted to such an extent that purchasing more food has become impossible: now our dogs are left to eat stale bread, which fails to provide them with the nutrients they need.
This shortage has brought our rescue operation to a halt, we cannot rescue any more dog in such circumstances. The lack of proper food has already started to impact the dogs health at the shelter, with diseases developing from poor nutrition.
Our concern grows daily as the crisis is deepening and we're left unable to stop it, knowing that without kibble our efforts to protect these dogs are severely compromised."
"Lack of kibble has put the dogs' survival in jeopardy. The ongoing shortage could lead to severe malnutrition, escalating the risk of disease outbreak at the shelter, which would be a total nightmare, and irreversible health issues.
Our dogs have been surviving on bread only for days, it's clear they are not strong enough to withstand this shortage much longer. The fear of losing them is a weight we carry every moment, growing heavier with each day that passes without kibble."
"Despite our best efforts, our fundraising initiatives have fallen short of meeting the urgent need for dog food. Our attempts to partner with suppliers for aid have ended in vain, and our calls for help often go unanswered.
We've searched tirelessly for donors, we've reached out to international organisations as well, yet our feeling of helplessness grows as kibble remain out of reach. Stale bread is all we can manage to provide, so far from what the dogs need.
We have so little resources with so many lives to care for, and we just don't know what to do anymore to get out of this difficult situation."
"The current shortage threatens the very missing of our shelter, as without kibble we cannot provide the care and safety these dogs rely on, and that they deserve. Every single aspect of our shelter depends on the availability of kibble, from heath interventions to the dogs' rehabilitation.
Without it, the future of our shelter and the lives of the dogs we are for is uncertain. It's clear that without securing a steady supply of dog food, we cannot fulfill our commitment to these animals. Our efforts to rescue and care for them cannot be considered complete under these conditions."
"We face nearly overwhelming challenges every day, yet, we tirelessly strive to protect and care for the dogs. The responsibility of their care is a burden we carry with heavy hearts, as witnessing their hardships fills us with a sadness we can't describe.
Our dedication to their welfare is a deeply personal commitment, driven by the belief that we need to be their voice since they don't have one, especially in a country such as Serbia where animal welfare is very complex.
This fight is demanding but also incredibly rewarding, and we draw strength from every bit of help we receive along the way. Our hope for better days in animal welfare keeps us going, knowing we've saved so many lives already."
