1. In Morocco, Karim is nearly out of kibble to feed the 226 dogs he cares for in his shelter and on the streets. They will starve if no one helps!
"The situation is getting more and more desperate. The dogs are no longer eating enough, and it's only going to get worse: our kibble supply is almost gone, with just enough left for two days. We can't afford to buy more, debts are piling up, blocking any chance of getting more food. We're already seeing the effects on the animals, who are losing weight alarmingly fast and becoming vulnerable to diseases. With hunger, their aggressivity is also increasing, leading to fights.
This situation forces us to make heartbreaking decisions: we find ourselves saving the most vulnerable ones, and can only watch the others suffer, hoping things will get better soon. The fact that we can't take in any new dogs, even though so many desperately need help, keeps me up at night. If we don't find kibble soon, we risk losing dogs that could have been saved!"
2. Without kibble, illness and starvation threaten all the dogs, while the survival of the weakest ones is already hanging by a thread.
"Without kibble, the weakest dogs, especially the old ones and those already weakened by disease and malnutrition, stand no chance. If we don't find a solution quickly, we risk losing them one by one, including those we've managed to place in the safety of the shelter. The spread of diseases, which is a constant challenge, could get worse, putting even the dogs that have managed to stay healthy at risk...
What we're doing is essential for these dogs; it's not just a whim but a response to a real and urgent need. If we stay in this situation any longer, unable to help the street dogs, things will only get worse, and many might die without anyone caring."
3. Karim has tried negotiating with suppliers, setting up online fundraisers, and talking to local authorities, but none of it has worked to get more kibble. This fundraiser is his only hope!
"We're facing obstacles at every turn in our fight for these dogs! Despite our repeated calls for donations through social media and crowdfunding sites, the engagement and contributions have been minimal, far from covering our current needs. Our attempts to talk with local authorities for help have led to no concrete support, leaving our requests unanswered...
We've tried to cut the shelter's expenses to free up some money for kibble, but the truth is we have no unnecessary expenses; we're at the bare minimum, without which these dogs can't survive. Our negotiations with our suppliers for deferred payments were turned down... Even attempts to gain support from international foundations haven't brought anything, with long processes and no guarantee of success.
Given our limited resources and the urgency of the situation, we're backed into a corner... Without outside help, I'm really afraid we won't be able to prevent the worst from happening!"
4. Karim isn't asking for money, only kibble to prevent the dogs from starving.
"Dog food is much more than just a meal for our dogs; it's at the heart of everything we do. From rehabilitating traumatized dogs, for whom each meal is a step towards recovery, to the general upkeep of the shelter, where every resource must be wisely allocated. Our efforts to socially reintegrate these animals have come to a halt, and our fundraising activities are focused on the desperate need for dog food, rather than on long-term projects...
Not only can we no longer help street dogs, but our ability to run spay / neuter campaigns is also severely compromised. If we don't find a way to get dog food soon, the street dog population will continue to grow, and their living conditions will rapidly worsen. For these dogs, the lack of dog food is not just a matter of hunger; it's a matter of life and death!"
5. Karim is tirelessly fighting for the survival of the street and shelter dogs, refusing to give up despite the challenges.
"Every day, I fight for animal rights in Morocco, despite the difficulties that come with it in our country. The responsibility of looking after these dogs weighs heavily on me. It's a sacrifice that brings me a lot but also isolates me, and sometimes I feel overwhelmed by the task. I keep moving forward and hold onto hope because I know every living being deserves to experience love and security...
