1. In Serbia, Sladja has almost run out of kibble to feed the 122 dogs in her shelter. They'll starve if nobody helps them!
"I find myself at a critical point where the lack of kibble threatens the very survival of the 122 dogs hosted at my shelter, not to mention the dozens I feed on the streets every day. My attempt to stretch the little kibble I have left will only last so long, and is already full of consequences, as I see the condition of my dogs deteriorate before my eyes.
I've had to cut back on all but the most essential expenditures for dogs, but even this is not enough to allow me to buy kibble again, I am forced into a corner. I have only 5 days of kibble left, and strictly no idea of how I'll be able to provide for the dogs after that.
My worry and desperation grow by the day, the immediate survival of my dogs hangs in the balance, the need for kibble has never been more urgent."
2. Dogs are already weakened and do not eat enough, the most vulnerables won't make it for long through a shortage.
"The kibble shortage not only implies an immediate threat to the dogs, but a cascade of terrible consequences. If the dogs are starving, they'll face many health issues that could prove to be fatal, both on a short and long term. Dogs that I've rescued, who are already on a delicate path to recovery, might regress, and the survival for the ill dogs could drop enormously, as food is crucial to recover.
Every day, I'm confronted with moral dilemmas, forced to make daunting decisions about who and what to prioritize. Without kibble, my shelter capacity to assist abandoned dogs and care for them is directly questioned, my long-standing residents are in jeopardy, and the adoption rates could also be impacted by the dogs declining health. This is something I cannot let happen, yet I do not know how to prevent it if I don't find kibble."
3. Sladja's attempts to get kibble remain vain, this campaign is her last hope to keep feeding the dogs.
"My pleas for support have met minimal success so far, I've contacted local businesses, tried to establish partnerships and negociate payment plans with suppliers, called for help to my community, and still do not have any more kibble nor any solution to get some. I already have debts with suppliers, which makes things even more complicated of course.
Each rejection leads me to question my mission's feasibility, it makes me feel powerless in the face of escalating needs. I wonder if I can still make a difference, the fear of being unable to secure kibble and keep sustaining the dogs hauts my every decision and weighs heavily on me."
4. Sladja isn't asking for money, only kibble to prevent the dogs from starving.
"The lack of kibble has put a stop to my ability to take in new rescue, I cannot bring any new dog as long as I don't know how to feed the ones I'm responsible for already. The day-to-day operations of the shelter are strongly impacted by the situation, it impacts my capacity to rehabilitate dogs, have them adopted, healed...everything.
I cannot plan anything ahead, as I don't know what tomorrow will be made of, I cannot respond to crisis and emergencies, the essence of my role as caregiver and animal protector is fundamentally challenged. Without kibble, I cannot fulfill my mission to rescue and care for abandoned dogs, it all comes to that."
5. Sladja is on all fronts for animal welfare, determined not to let the dogs down.
"My shelter is and has always been meant to be a beacon of hope for the voiceless, and I always try not to forget that, no matter how difficult the day has been. The dogs I've saved along the way, the ones who got happily adopted motivate me to push forward, are a constant reminder of the impact I can make for these souls.
I endlessly advocate for spaying and neutering, for better animal rights legislation, and do my very best to help those I can help. This fight has been shaping my existence, and I work hard to navigate the emotional toll and financial challenges through it all. My resolve is intact, but I need more help and support from others to continue my mission."
6. If this campaign succeeds, Sladja will not receive any money but 1600 kg of kibble, delivered from Animal Webaction's logistics centre in Serbia.
