1. In Morocco, Hajar is out of kibble to feed the hundreds of cats she cares for in her shelter and on the streets. They will starve if no one intervenes!
"My shelter is now home to 140 cats, and outside, a hundred more stray cats count on me daily to be able to eat. Sadly, I've been out of kibble for several days now, and I have no way of buying some more. I've tried my best to find some anyway, but every avenue has led to a dead end.
I've been looking for leftovers to at least keep feeding something to cats in my shelter, but even this is incredibly difficult and I don't manage to get enough for them to eat their fill. It is even worse for strays, as I've had no choice but to stop feeding them altogether.
Hunger is already a reality for them, malnutrition is now a pressing concern, diseases are spreading and my fear for survival grows stronger every day. All I want is a solution to this kibble shortage, as soon as possible."
2. On the streets, cats cannot be fed nor rescued anymore. They are left to fend for themselves, exposed to starvation, diseases and abuse!
"The situation for stray cats is desperate, the lives of the weakest ones only hangs by a thread. I would normally rescue them, the sick ones, the injured ones, or simply those already very weakened and underweight, but I can't do that anymore, nor can I feed any of them.
This doesn't only imply a lot of suffering for them, but also a higher risk for the whole stray population, as diseases might spread much faster, and outbreaks could very well impact a lot of them. Without kibble, their immune defenses weaken, leaving them with low chances to avoid diseases, or to be able to fight them.
The thought of finding them lifeless hauts me, each day without kibble is a battle for survival for them, and although I know that I can't manage to find a way to fix this and provide for them, I feel truly powerless."
3. With no resources left to buy kibble and calls for help that remain unanswered, Hajar is at a dead end. She relies on this campaign to keep feeding the cats.
"I've called out for help, pleaded for kibble donations, tried to negotiate kibble on credit, yet I'm still left with nothing. Local businesses, veterinary clinics, pet stores – I've turned to everyone. My own funds are depleted, I've bought kibble for as long as I could. My pleas go unnoticed, and even the local community's participation in fundraising efforts has been minimal.
I've exhausted every option, every idea I could think ok, something needs to work to get us out of this crisis but I just don't know how to make it happen. That makes me feel utterly helpless."
4. Hajar isn't asking for money, only kibble to prevent the cats from starving.
"The essence of my mission, to save these cats, is crippled without kibble. I cannot conduct daily feeding routines, keep up with health standards that are expected in the shelter, give the best chances to sick or inujured cats to recover. Rehabilitation, socialization, adoption - every effort is overshadowed by the kibble shortage.
I am forced to shift my focus from long-term care to immediate survival, any funds we might receive must be allocated to keep feeding the cats while they still need other things such as vet care for instance. My days are consumed by the search for kibble, which pulls me away from the cats while they need the most attention... The broader impact of this crisis is devastating, as all I can do is focus on mere survival for these poor animals."
5. Hajar is ready to make any sacrifice to bring relief and compassion to abandoned animals
"My life is defined by my dedication to these animals. In Morocco, where resources are thin, and animal welfare still complicated, this commitment often comes with significant personal sacrifice, but it is worth it. When I see an animal recover from a terrible injury or illness, one get adopted, one regain trust in humans despite abuse, it always brings me the same joy and keeps my hopes high.
I wish I could foster a culture of compassion towards animals, and ensure that every animal is being kept from harm and hunger. The task is daunting, especially given the cultural and logistical obstacles we face here, but I strongly believe that time, perseverance and solidarity will allow us to get there."
