Animal Webaction visited the site 09 March 2024 and confirms the situation described below.
"The stock of kibble is almost gone. To save what I have left, I'm forced to reduce the portions, but this means that the dogs at the shelter aren't eating enough. The already mediocre quality of the kibble doesn't satisfy them, making their hunger worse every day...
What's more, with new dogs arriving every day, the little kibble we have left isn't enough for everyone! The reduction in rations has led to unprecedented tensions within the group. Aggression rises, and fights over food are becoming increasingly violent... This campaign is our only hope of reversing the situation and ensuring the survival of these animals!"
"As the last of the kibble runs out, competition intensifies at the shelter. Fights over food, once rare, have become commonplace and much more violent. The strongest grab what there is... Some dogs, unable to defend themselves, have unfortunately died as a result of fighting... The situation is untenable, and if we don't act quickly, I fear it will happen again!
The current situation is a blow to the morale of everyone at the shelter, dogs and humans alike. The dogs' ability to recover from illness diminishes without proper nutrition, and I'm also noticing a significant drop in their interaction with the volunteers. Their confidence and sociability are eroded day by day, under the weight of hunger... We desperately need kibble! The prospect of the dogs suffering further is unbearable..."
"We've knocked on every door we could think of in search of help for our protégés. We've asked for donations without success. Our crowdfunding campaigns didn't take off either... We tried to cut costs as much as possible, negotiating discounts on kibble prices, to no avail. Our requests for subsidies were also rejected.
This difficulty in mobilizing support saddens us enormously... The lack of resources puts us in a precarious position, leaving a gap we can't fill alone! Without more support, the possibility of continuing to feed and care for these dogs grows ever more remote..."
"Without kibble, everything becomes more complicated at the shelter. The effectiveness of veterinary care decreases, as does the recovery rate for sick dogs. What's more, without good nutrition, the immunity of healthy dogs drops, and the overall cost of veterinary care rises... It's a vicious circle!
Kibbles also play a key role in controlling stress and aggression. Without them, dogs become less sociable and adoption becomes unlikely... This makes life more difficult at the shelter, and dashes any hope of a better life for them! This shortage affects everything. We do our best every day, but without kibble, our ability to save these dogs is very limited..."
"The emotional charge of this job is immense. There are days when I feel overwhelmed by sadness or frustration. For example, when a dog I've cared for for months doesn't survive. Or when I see a dog that has been mistreated and is afraid of anything that moves...
But there are also moments of happiness, like when a shy dog starts to trust humans again. Or when one of them recovers and finds a new family. These moments remind me why I keep on fighting.
Every day is another chance to make a difference in the lives of these animals. Despite the weight of my emotions, I remain determined to continue this work. I dream of a world where every animal is treated with love and respect. It's my passion and my vocation!"
