Animal Webaction visited the site 04 April 2024 and confirms the situation described below.
"I have barely 5 days' worth of kibble left. I'm already reducing the portions to try to make the little I have last, but I can see the dogs are not getting enough to eat. Their worried glances at mealtime, and sensing their hunger, weigh heavily on me. The bags of kibble are running out alarmingly fast, and my worry increases by the day.
Due to a lack of donations, purchasing new kibble is impossible, plunging the shelter into unprecedented precarity. This shortage of kibble could seriously jeopardize the survival of the dogs. Some are already fighting more fiercely over the scant portions available..."
"The situation is getting increasingly tense at the shelter. Meals have become moments of stress, not only for me but also for the dogs. With the dwindling supply of kibble, I see the worried looks, the defensive postures around the bowls. The smaller or weaker ones back away, letting the stronger ones take over. This dynamic breaks my heart.
The lack of kibble threatens the balance and safety we've worked so hard to establish here. The weakest could be constantly dominated, even injured in these conflicts over food. The thought of losing any of them due to a shortage of food is unbearable... This campaign is our only hope to maintain peace at the shelter and to prevent an outcome I dare not even consider..."
"I've sought help everywhere to get kibble. I contacted suppliers to ask for donations, to no avail. I also applied for grants and posted calls for donations on social media, but responses are scarce and donations are sporadic. I've tried to find people to sponsor the dogs, but very few are interested. Adoptions have also become rare, even though I try to show how kind our dogs are and how much they deserve a family.
Friends and supporters abroad have already given what they could, but they cannot do more. My own resources are limited... I've tried everything to cut costs and find money, but it's not enough to properly feed all the dogs. It's becoming increasingly difficult to keep hope when each day brings its own set of challenges and the lack of kibble affects us all... Every day is a struggle and every meal distributed, a luxury..."
"The lack of kibble affects everything at the shelter: the dogs' health, their well-being, and their rehabilitation. Many of them arrived here after suffering abuse or neglect. They need proper nutrition to recover, both physically and mentally. However, without kibble, their progress is jeopardized! This also limits my ability to take in new dogs in distress, as I must ensure there's enough food for everyone.
The daily management of the shelter is disrupted. Simple tasks become challenges when resources are prioritized for buying kibble, leaving little for other needs like medical care or facility maintenance. I find myself having to choose between feeding the dogs and treating them...
All my plans for improving the shelter are on hold. I wanted to create better spaces for the dogs but without kibble I'm forced to rethink my priorities. Daily survival takes precedence over everything else..."
"Managing a dog shelter is very complex. Difficult decisions and a lack of recognition are part of my daily life. Sometimes, I wonder if the efforts I put in for these dogs are acknowledged or if it matters to anyone else but me.
Despite these moments of doubt, I find the strength to continue, thanks to the dogs themselves. Their joy when they see me, every progress they make, reminds me why I do this job. My love for them is unconditional, and it's this feeling that guides me, even when the situation seems hopeless. The successes, the adoption stories, although rare, fill me with joy and hope. This proves that the fight I'm engaged in is not in vain!"
