Animal Webaction visited the site 04 April 2024 and confirms the situation described below.
"Our kibble stock is dangerously low. In just four days, we'll run out entirely. The quality of the remaining kibble leaves much to be desired, it's hardly enough to sustain the health of our 600 dogs. The reasons for this shortage are simple : donations have been scarce, and the cost of kibble has skyrocketed.
The consequences of this shortage are already being felt. Dogs are losing weight, getting weaker, and suffering from malnutrition. Some have even succumbed to disease... The stress of hunger is also causing increased aggression and fighting among the dogs, making it difficult to maintain a peaceful and safe environment at the shelter.
This situation is a constant source of anxiety for me! This kibble campaign is our only hope of keeping our dogs alive and well!"
"If we don't get kibble soon, the consequences will be devastating. The dogs' health will continue to deteriorate, and diseases will spread like wildfire throughout the shelter.
Dogs will become increasingly aggressive towards each other, resulting in more fights, more injuries and further compromising their already fragile health. Under these conditions, we will no longer be able to rescue animals in distress, leaving behind those who desperately need our help...
The thought is unbearable! I'm really worried... I'm terrified of the consequences that the failure of this campaign could bring."
"I have tried everything I can think of to secure kibble. I have reached out to local businesses, written to national organizations, and even started a social media campaign. But despite my efforts, I have not been able to secure the help we need.
The local businesses are struggling themselves and cannot afford to help. The national organizations have their own causes to support and cannot take on ours. And while our social media campaign has generated some attention, it has not resulted in the donations we need. The economic situation here in Bosnia is dire, and people have little to spare...
The reasons for these failed attempts are varied, but the result is the same: our dogs are still going hungry. Each failed attempt, each closed door, chips away at my hope..."
"Kibble. That's all we need. It's the foundation of everything we do here for the dogs. Without it, our mission falls apart. We can't rehabilitate them, we can't prepare them for new homes, we can't give them the second chance they deserve.
The lack of proper food puts a strain on everything. Veterinary care becomes more difficult, training sessions less effective. This crisis also affects the morale and engagement of our volunteers, who are vital to our operations. Every day without kibble is a test of our commitment, a constant reminder of the urgency of our situation."
"Running this shelter is a constant fight. It is a fight against poverty, against disease, and against indifference. It is a fight that I am proud to lead, but it is not an easy one. I am responsible for the lives of these animals, and I carry that responsibility with me every day. Living in Bosnia adds an extra layer of challenges. Animal welfare is not a priority here, and resources are scarce...
The isolation can be overwhelming at times, but I am lucky to have the support of a small team of dedicated volunteers, and I have the love and loyalty of the dogs. They are my motivation, my reason for getting up every morning. The little victories, the moments when I see a once-abused dog learn to trust again, or when a sick dog regains its strength, these are what keep me going. I am determined to make a difference, one dog at a time."
