1. In North Macedonia, Marija will soon run out of kibble to feed the 117 dogs at her shelter. They will starve if no one helps!
"We're almost out of kibble, and the little we have left is of very low quality. For over a week now, I've had to reduce their portions... The dogs aren't eating enough, and this kibble is particularly bad for our older and more vulnerable dogs!
One of our dogs was recently diagnosed with stomach cancer, and the vet thinks it was due to his diet... It took months of extra care and significant veterinary funds to get him through it— funds that we do not have! So we're getting into debt... it's a vicious circle. Without new kibble, I'm afraid that more of our dogs will face serious health problems, or worse..."
2. The dogs' health is deteriorating: Marija can no longer carry out rescues and fears she may have to release them into the streets...
"Our need for kibble is urgent: our dogs can't wait any longer! This forced diet will inevitably lead to serious health problems over time. It's already happening to some of our dogs but if this situation continues, it's a threat that will extend to all our protégés...
As it stands, we cannot continue the rescues, and if we don't get kibble soon, we might be forced to release the dogs into the streets... We can't leave them starving in a confined space!
Alas, the streets are no safer. Street dogs are poorly tolerated by the population, poisonings and accidents are common... We need to find kibble before it's too late!"
3. Low donations, unpaid bills... Marija is at a dead end when it comes to feeding her dogs!
"We constantly struggle to have enough to feed our dogs. We regularly post on social media but when it comes to donations, people tend to give when a dog is sick, but not to help us buy kibble. Yet the two issues are connected!
I've tried to negotiate a payment plan with our kibble supplier, but we already have a heavy slate: 4 unpaid bills... They are now demanding payment and cutting us off. I feel helpless.
We simply do not have the funds necessary to buy kibble right now. Donations are too low and we are already drowning in debts and unpaid bills. Only this campaign can get us out of this!"
4. Marija isn't asking for money, only kibble to prevent the dogs from starving.
"The lack of kibble jeopardizes everything we stand for and all that we do. We cannot provide necessary care for our dogs, a clean and safe environment, or socialization. We can't even guarantee their basic needs!
We can't save new dogs, and this has a real impact on the local ecosystem. The number of stray dogs in North Macedonia is already high, but without the means to care for, sterilize, and feed them, we can't help them or control the population of stray dogs. The need for kibble is our most pressing concern, as everything stems from it..."
5. Marija hangs on despite the difficulties: her love for animals and small victories keep her going.
"The love I have for animals is my sole and only motivation. The sacrifices this lifestyle entails are huge. It's hard to explain the daily challenges of managing a shelter: you have to live it! But it's all worth it because I know I'm doing something good.
Finding homes for the dogs is the most rewarding thing there is, but also a huge challenge. There are so many dogs in need just in North Macedonia!
But every time a dog finds a loving home, it fuels my desire to keep tackling challenges. The small victories and the impact we have on the lives of animals are what keep me going, and I will continue this fight as long as it takes."
5. If this campaign succeeds, Marijan will not receive any money but 2000 kg of kibble, delivered from Animal Webaction's logistics platform in North Macedonia.
