1. In Serbia, Vesna is out of kibble to feed the 300 dogs in her shelter. They'll starve if no one helps them!
"We've been out of kibble for weeks! The dogs are eating stale bread and food scraps, but it's not enough. Not at all! They're starving; it breaks my heart to see them like this...
Some of our dogs are suffering from malnutrition. They're losing weight and becoming weaker. We've even lost a few of the older ones, partly due to the lack of kibble... It's terrible!
With the current situation in Serbia, it's very difficult to get regular donations and support. I'm doing my best, but it's like swimming against the tide. I'm so worried about my dogs! I'm terrified of what might happen if this campaign fails..."
2. Diseases, fights: the shelter is on the verge of collapsing! Vesna fears she will have to put the dogs back on the street if this campaign fails...
"If we don't get kibble... Gosh, I don't even want to think about it. As it stands, the dogs are already starving, and they're becoming more aggressive. Fights are likely to break out!
With this diet over the long term, the dogs' immune systems will be destroyed, and they won't be able to fight off anything. They'll get sick one after another! Those who are already injured or ill will be the first to go...
If this continues, we might even have to send some dogs back to the streets. After everything they've been through, sending them back to that hell... it's unthinkable. But what choice do we have? We're running out of time and kibble: their survival depends on this campaign!"
3. Grants denied, low donations, debts... Vesna is out of options to feed her dogs!
"Despite all my efforts, I can't get the help needed to keep the shelter running and feed the dogs. I've contacted local businesses asking for donations, sponsorships, anything. But most of them are also struggling. Times are tough for everyone!
I've tried fundraisers, events, anything to get the word out about what we're going through. But people have their own problems, and animals aren't always at the top of their priority list. I've applied for grants and aid, but there's so much competition, and so far... nothing. The state isn't helping us!
We have debts piling up at the vet, bills we can't pay. It's exhausting to give everything day after day and come back with barely enough to keep the lights on! The worry and stress are affecting my health. I've put every last cent I had into this place, but it's not enough..."
4. Vesna is not asking for money, only kibble to prevent the dogs from starving.
"When we don't have kibble, I spend all my time running around trying to find food. I'm out begging for leftovers, negotiating with shops, trying to get anything I can to keep the dogs alive. It takes all my energy, all my attention. I can't do anything else.
The dogs need more than just food. They need medical care, love. But without kibble, I spend all my time just trying to keep them alive. I can't give them the individual attention they need! I can't work on finding them permanent homes. It's a constant crisis...
Kibble is the key to everything we do here. We can't function as a shelter if we can't feed the dogs! It's as simple as that."
5. Despite a hostile environment, Vesna remains determined: animals are her top priority!
"I've always loved animals. I've always wanted to help them, ever since I was a child. And here, the things these animals go through are enough to break your heart. The cruelty, the hardships... they fight every day to survive. I couldn't just stand by and do nothing. I had to act. That's why I created this shelter.
This fight... it's not just mine. It belongs to everyone who believes that every living creature matters. Yet in Serbia, the odds are against us. The government does little, and few people care about what happens to these animals.
I will keep fighting for them, no matter how hard it gets, because they are worth it. These dogs deserve a chance at a better life. And I won't stop until I've given them that. They are worth every struggle, every tear!"
