1. In Serbia, Svetlana is almost out of kibble to feed the 190 dogs in her care. They will starve if no one intervenes!
"The kibble stock is dwindling rapidly. We have an agreement with the municipality, which provides us with a few bags every week, but unfortunately, it's far from being enough for all the dogs.
For a month now, I've had to reduce the portions at the shelter. Donations are non-existent, and with my meager income, I can't do much... The last bags are emptying, and it terrifies me.
With the warm temperatures, kibble is the only thing we can use to feed the dogs. Meat scraps are excluded: they spoil much too quickly... The problem is the price of kibble: it's a real luxury product in Serbia! We're stuck... Only this campaign can ensure that our dogs eat their fill!"
2. After all they've been through, dogs at Svetlana's shelter cannot face disease and starvation, they need kibble!
"Our most fragile dogs are on the front line of the kibble shortage. We have dogs requiring treatments administered several times a day, dogs recovering from an operation, dogs in the socialization phase...
They need to eat enough to get back on their feet. Their bodies will not be able to withstand a lack of kibble! The same goes for the recently weaned puppies, the old dogs... I fear for their health. I can't bear to leave them in this situation after all the efforts to save them..."
3. Svetlana is out of strength and resources to find kibble, she counts on this campaign to get out of this tight spot.
"The shelter is in the red. I have accumulated debts with the vet, who, despite his kindness, cannot work for free. I've exhausted all my savings, sold everything I could, but it's never enough.
I've contacted dozens of associations, sent hundreds of emails, shared calls for help on social media... to no avail. The responses are always the same: lack of resources, too many requests, priorities elsewhere. Every refusal is a blow, another disillusionment in this daily struggle..."
4. Svetlana isn't asking for money, only kibble to keep the dogs from starving.
"Nothing is possible without kibble. It's thanks to them that I can educate the dogs, teach them the basic rules of community life, get them adopted... Not to mention the care, it's impossible to approach a fearful or aggressive dog if I don't have a minimum of food to offer him to distract him, to tame him!
With full bowls, I can give them a chance, a respite in their chaotic lives. That's why we need these kibbles so much! And that's why I'm fighting today to get them."
5. Svetlana's dedication is the only ray of hope for hundreds of abandoned dogs.
"In Serbia, shelters are often seen as a useless burden in a country that already has many other problems to deal with. People prefer to turn a blind eye to the animal misery around them, to these stray dogs that rummage through the garbage to survive, to these puppies abandoned at birth, condemned from the start.
Unfortunately, some don't just turn a blind eye. Street dogs are regularly hunted, mistreated. The bowls I fill for them are vandalized... It's exhausting to fight against ignorance, against the mistreatment of those that many consider insignificant. While these animals only ask to receive and give love!"
6. If this campaign succeeds, Svetlana will not receive any money but 1600 kg of kibble, delivered by Animal Webaction's logistics platform in Serbia.
