Animal Webaction visited the site 19 July 2024 and confirms the situation described below.
"The situation is critical. Despite rationing for the past 15 days, the kibble bags have emptied far too quickly... Today, we have nothing left!
Among the 185 cats I care for at the shelter and the 100 in the streets, many have developed infections and digestive problems. They are losing weight, and I see their condition deteriorating day by day... It breaks my heart to see them like this!
Without kibble, many won't survive long, especially the most fragile ones. I don't want it to come to that! I sincerely hope this campaign will be successful, but I'm anxious that we won't make it..."
"Without kibble, the precarious balance between the shelter and the street will be completely broken. It's a simple fact: to approach a street cat in distress, gain its trust, and capture it, you need to be able to feed it! It's a dynamic we can't escape.
Without kibble, we also won't be able to take in new cats at the shelter, as every additional mouth to feed is an extra burden on our meager reserves... We are facing an unbearable financial and moral dilemma!
Being forced to abandon these poor cats to their sad fate goes against everything I believe in. It would be a crushing failure for me and a huge heartache..."
"In recent years, my personal income has significantly decreased. Every attempt to compensate for this loss has failed: extra small jobs, saving on personal expenses, nothing has worked.
The little money I manage to earn goes entirely to the essential expenses of the shelter, and it is increasingly difficult to find sponsors or stable aid. Donations are down, adoptions are marginal... subsidies, nonexistent!
This inability to improve my situation is frustrating, even destabilizing, because it means that the shelter cats and the street cats I feed every day are in danger. Their survival depends on this kibble that I can no longer provide alone."
"I am not a hero, far from it. I'm just trying to do my part to help stray and abandoned animals in my country, as best as I can. It's sometimes difficult, I won't hide that from you. One feels helpless in the face of so much misery, so much indifference. You wonder what you can do, alone, against a problem that seems so immense.
But each small victory, no matter how tiny, gives me the strength to continue. A less fearful look, a cat that finally allows itself to be approached, an adoption that becomes a reality... These are the moments that remind me why I do this. To offer them a bit of comfort, a bit of security, in a world that hasn't always been kind to them.
I may not change the world, but if I can change the world for just one of these animals, then my efforts will not have been in vain. For me, that is what matters most."
