Animal Webaction visited the site 24 July 2024 and confirms the situation described below.
"The kibble stock is depleted. Not a single kibble left! At the shelter, 300 pairs of eyes look at me each morning, waiting for their daily ration. On top of that, we care for 800 cats on the streets of Essaouira. The survival of hundreds of cats entirely depends on whether or not I can provide kibble!
I constantly come across weakened animals in the streets, but without kibble, I am powerless; I can’t take in any more. Taking them in without being able to feed them would be condemning them!
I sincerely hope this campaign is a success, so my cats can eat, live with dignity, and have a chance to be saved. The alternative is unthinkable..."
"Every day, hundreds of cats depend on me for their safety and survival. But if I can no longer give them kibble, they will have no protection! I will have to close the shelter...
The cats I take in will find themselves without shelter, without food, without care. They will have nothing. Forced to search for food in garbage bins, to fight for scraps. I don’t see much hope for their future, their ability to survive in such harsh conditions...
The absence of kibble will mark the end of hope for hundreds of animals, inevitably!"
"The past few weeks have been particularly difficult. I had to face unexpected veterinary expenses for several of my cats. Some were injured, others fell seriously ill. The care was urgent and necessary; I had no choice but to treat them immediately.
These costs have completely depleted my financial reserves, and I have not been able to secure additional help. Donations of kibble are rare and insufficient; managing the shelter’s finances has become extremely difficult.
Every euro spent on veterinary care is one less euro for kibble! Yet both are vital needs for these animals... I feel powerless in this situation. I cannot let them starve!"
"My commitment to animals began several years ago when I became aware of the suffering and neglect that animals here in Morocco endure. This is what drove me to act and dedicate my life to helping these often forgotten animals. My shelter has become a haven of peace, a place where they can find food, care, and a lot of love.
The path has not been easy. The challenges are numerous: finding resources, managing veterinary care, and sometimes even facing people's indifference. The responsibility is immense, and moments of sadness are frequent.
But what keeps me going are the small victories of everyday life. Seeing a sick cat regain strength reminds me why I do all this. Animal protection is a responsibility towards those who cannot defend themselves. It is a fight for a more just and compassionate world!"
