Animal Webaction visited the site 20 August 2024 and confirms the situation described below.
"We're in the middle of a kibble shortage, and the situation is becoming more than critical! I've been reducing the dogs' portions for over a week, and today I'm out of stock...
The consequences are disastrous; the dogs are starting to fight, and it can be sudden and violent. These aren't bad dogs, but they are hungry... It's the hunger that agitates them, stresses them, and drives them to turn on each other.
It's a heartbreaking reality, and I don't know how long I can control the situation before a tragedy occurs. If I don't find kibble, it could happen very soon. I can't think of anything else; it's an obsession because I am petrified at the thought that it could happen."
"I don’t have the words to explain what I feel. My shelter is home to many dogs with a heavy past, some more recent than others, and many have not yet fully recovered. The things they have experienced, the sufferings they have endured, and still endure in some cases, are beyond what most people can imagine. The shelter is here to help them move forward, to heal—it allows wounds to close, illnesses to be treated, and the weakest to be protected.
But without kibble, this promise collapses like a house of cards. It is the kibble that gives the dogs the strength to fight for a better life. I am ready to do anything for these dogs, but unfortunately, my determination alone is not enough."
"Every bill that arrives further strains our budget. There are veterinary fees, of course, along with water, rent, electricity, waste disposal, fuel costs—I could go on all night, and state that each of these expenses has increased in recent months.
I’ve tried negotiating, reducing each expense, finding more resources, getting help, and securing partners... Nothing has worked. So, what can be done? The situation is becoming untenable, and not feeding the dogs is not an option!"
"When I started this shelter, I didn’t grasp the full scope of the task. The days are long, sometimes endless, filled with unexpected challenges, and the responsibilities are overwhelming. Running a shelter means facing the unexpected every day, juggling veterinary emergencies, last-minute rescues, daily administration, adoptions, and, of course, meeting everyone's needs as best as possible. Every action, every decision has a direct impact on the lives of the dogs I take in here.
What I do is a promise of a second chance: for them, to give them a better life, to know love and security; but also for us, to express another facet of our humanity than what they have known, and in which I want to believe."
