Animal Webaction visited the site 24 August 2024 and confirms the situation described below.
"My shelter has 300 dogs, who unfortunately haven’t been eating enough for two weeks now, and it shows. They are thin, their ribs are becoming visible, and each day without enough food makes them more vulnerable. The worst is yet to come, as in just a few days, I will have no kibble left to give them.
I can't stop thinking about what might happen if we don't receive kibble soon. The fear of not being able to feed them deeply worries me. I’ve tried everything to find a solution, to replenish the kibble stock, but the needs to feed so many dogs are enormous, and our resources are too limited.
I am out of ideas and hope with all my heart that this campaign will succeed to get us out of this nightmare and avoid the worst."
"We are caught in a dire situation. The dogs are already weakened by the lack of kibble, and if this continues, illnesses that would normally be minor will become severe. Whether it’s viruses, infections, digestive issues, or even chronic conditions that we’ve managed to stabilize until now, everything escalates without kibble.
I can't help but think of the worst-case scenario. Their suffering becomes my own, and this reality is unbearable."
"The total absence of subsidies means that I have to manage all the shelter's needs on my own, even though it’s a community concern that affects us all. I have tried knocking on every door, submitting funding requests, and pleading our case to various institutions, but to no avail. Dogs are living beings with chronic needs, regardless of whether you have the resources to meet them or not.
Relying on donations and public collections inevitably leads to a certain instability and a lack of consistency in the shelter’s resources. If I had subsidies, I could better anticipate, organize resource allocation, and set a fixed budget for purchasing kibble. Unfortunately, that’s not the case, and it’s the dogs who suffer, which devastates me."
"Running a shelter is much more than just an occupation. It’s a daily commitment, a promise made to every dog that walks through the doors, no matter the cost or the sacrifices involved. Being responsible for so many lives is a heavy burden, and not always being able to help them or alleviate their suffering weighs even more.
There is an indescribable beauty in the resilience of these animals, in their ability to forgive and love again, which never ceases to amaze me. I think that’s what drove me to embark on this somewhat crazy project in the first place, and it’s what keeps me going, even though it’s far from easy."
