Animal Webaction visited the site 29 September 2024 and confirms the situation described below.
"My kibble supply is almost gone, and I’m literally living day to day. I started cutting down portions over 10 days ago, and the dogs are hungry! The weakest ones are struggling the most—their ribs are showing, and they’re getting weaker by the day…
Seeing them like this, being in this situation, makes me incredibly sad. I’m overwhelmed with anxiety thinking about what could happen if we don’t get help soon... I can’t bear to watch their condition deteriorate even further or see them suffer while feeling completely helpless—I just can’t imagine it.
Despite all my efforts, I have no other way to get kibble outside of this campaign. It’s not for lack of trying; I’ve looked for solutions again and again, and I just don’t know what to do anymore. I need help, we need help."
"If I can’t find a solution and the dogs can't have kibble, it’ll be a complete disaster. They’re already impacted, this is just the beginning, and it’s still reversible, but without kibble, their condition will deteriorate rapidly…
Hunger will keep weakening them, and their immune systems won’t be able to protect them anymore, making them easy targets for all kinds of diseases. And I won’t be able to stop it. In a shelter, once infections start spreading under such conditions, it’s almost inevitable, and the suffering that follows is unimaginable...
They’re like my own dogs. Everything I do, I do for them—to save them and make sure they’re okay. Watching them suffer like that, without being able to help, would be unbearable."
"Kibble has always been a major part of the shelter’s budget, it’s one of the biggest expenses. But it’s never been as overwhelming as it is now. The problem is that the price of kibble has been steadily rising over the past few years, reaching an unbelievable level recently!
What used to be an essential item has almost become a luxury that very few can afford. For a shelter, considering the amount needed to feed so many dogs, it’s a huge problem...
I’ve been looking for solutions for months, but I keep hitting roadblocks—constant refusals, exorbitant prices, and only minimal discounts. Companies either can’t or won’t offer more help, and the campaigns I run aren’t even close to covering the shortage we’re facing. I’m at my breaking point, and this helplessness haunts me because I know that the survival of these dogs depends on my ability to get this kibble."
"I often feel like running a dog shelter is a bit like walking on a fragile tightrope: it’s constantly on the verge of snapping, but it’s the only path to get to the other side—there’s no alternative. So, you learn to understand the rope and do whatever it takes to keep it from breaking.
Every day, I see animals that have gone through hardships no living being should ever endure. Yet, here they are, enduring it, simply waiting for someone to give them a chance to regain balance, hope, and a safe haven…
Anyone will tell you it’s difficult. I don’t know a single shelter—not one—that can claim it’s easy or that everything’s fine. What drives us, what keeps us going despite all the challenges, is the need to support these animals that the world has turned its back on and to offer them a better future. I couldn’t do it any other way."
