1. In France, the rising cost of living is forcing the most vulnerable to abandon their pets!

Inflation is ravaging the purchasing power of the French. Nearly 9 million people are currently living below the poverty line! Kibble, once affordable, has become a luxury item for many.

Some pet owners face a heartbreaking choice: feed themselves or feed their animals. Others, unable to make ends meet, have no other option but to part with their loyal companions...

For these animals, abandonment causes immense emotional distress! Deprived of their home and familiar surroundings, they find themselves on the streets or in overcrowded shelters, surrounded by other equally disoriented animals. So many broken destinies, so many sacrificed pets, victims of a crisis they cannot understand...

2. Increase in pet abandonment: shelters are sounding the alarm!

Nearly 200,000 pets are abandoned in France each year. This phenomenon continues to grow and is no longer limited to the summer season, as highlighted by Axelle, a volunteer at the Arbois shelter: "It’s no longer just during summer. There’s no longer a specific period. We get about ten calls every day, all year round, for pet abandonments. Our logbook is overflowing [...]"

The situation is clear: economic reasons are now the leading cause of pet abandonment, surpassing all other motives. Overwhelmed, shelters are struggling to keep up with the constant influx of animals. In some regions, shelters have even had to introduce waiting lists for pet surrenders!

And while the economic crisis is driving a rise in pet abandonments, it is also causing a significant drop in adoptions... A volatile mix that leaves thousands of shelters and animals in dire straits.

3. The cost of pet ownership is skyrocketing

Between food, veterinary care, grooming, and insurance, the annual budget for a pet is becoming a heavier burden on French households.

While owning a hamster may cost around 300 euros over its entire lifetime, the expenses for a cat or dog average 10,000 euros! This doesn’t even include unexpected medical care or accidents.

Food is the primary expense, with an average annual budget of 643 euros, which is 201 euros more than in 2020. These costs have become unattainable for many people...

4. By helping struggling pet owners get kibble, we can protect both animals and shelters

In recent months, many concerned people have reached out to us, asking for help for pet owners in financial difficulty. Faced with this growing distress, we decided to take action.

With this kibble drive, our goal is to provide support, however modest, to animals and their struggling owners. Each contribution will bring relief to those fighting to keep their pets by their side...
