Animal Webaction visited the site 11 October 2024 and confirms the situation described below.
"Only a few bags of kibble left, virtually nothing. I'm doing what I can: dividing up the rations and looking for makeshift solutions. But I'm not a magician...
I have 380 cats in the shelter and 800 on the streets, and given the situation, it's impossible for me to take in any new residents. Every day, I receive calls, messages, and reports. And each time, I have to resign myself to saying no.
Each refusal feels like a failure, a promise unfulfilled! No matter how much I try to reassure myself that the campaign will work, the fear is there, persistent..."
"The kibble shortage is having immediate and serious consequences for the cats in our care. At the shelter, many convalescent cats are seeing their recovery compromised. On the streets, those we regularly fed are left to fend for themselves.
The most vulnerable—kittens, elderly cats, and the sick—are the first to show signs of distress. Their condition is rapidly deteriorating, and our ability to help is limited. Without kibble, we can’t hope to save them!
This situation haunts me day and night. I see our years of effort and dedication threatened by this critical lack of kibble. It’s a challenge that surpasses our current capacities and endangers the lives of hundreds of cats."
"The drop in donations has put us in a critical situation. The accounts are in the red, and I no longer know how to handle the ongoing expenses. Every penny is counted, every purchase carefully weighed. This financial instability is exhausting.
My actions are directly impacted by this lack of resources. I constantly have to lower our goals, cancel interventions that are desperately needed. It breaks my heart to have to turn down requests for help due to insufficient resources.
This situation is unsustainable in the long term. Without support, I don’t know how much longer I can continue. I feel as helpless as the cats I’ve promised to help..."
"At first, I just wanted to offer a bit of respite to a few abandoned cats. But animal distress is like an oil spill—it floods in without warning and overwhelms you. The shelter quickly reached its limits. We find ourselves juggling space, resources, and time. The days blur together in a frantic pace of care, cleaning, and answering cries for help.
Sometimes, the enormity of the task hits me square in the face. Abandonment and abuse—it’s a daily reality. You feel powerless, helpless in the face of so much suffering. But then there are those moments of grace, when a traumatized animal finally lets down its guard, when you see trust slowly rekindle in its eyes. That’s why we keep going—for those small victories that give meaning to everything else."
Animal Webaction has a logistical platform in Morocco, which allows us to intervene quickly and deliver kibble.
