Animal Webaction visited the site 20 October 2024 and confirms the situation described below.
"Feeding 650 dogs every day is a monumental task, and donations are few and far between. It’s simple: we’ve never had so many dogs and so few donations... The supply of kibble is our biggest challenge.
The problem is that we can’t afford to put this off – our dogs need to eat every day! We only have enough kibble for 2 to 3 more days, after that... nothing. This uncertainty is really unsettling. Our stress is constant...
This situation is unmanageable. It will be catastrophic for our dogs if we don't get any kibble. It's a matter of survival..."
"If we don’t get kibble quickly, the consequences will be disastrous. The dogs’ health will deteriorate, as will their behavior. They will start becoming aggressive towards one another.
Even though we have a lot of dogs, they usually manage to live together relatively well. But this peace is fragile, and it depends entirely on the availability of kibble... All our dogs, even the sweetest ones, will become aggressive if they don’t have enough to eat.
Needless to say, it will be impossible for us to contain the violence of 650 dogs if we have nothing to fill their stomachs… This kibble shortage is a ticking time bomb! If this campaign fails, the situation will become uncontrollable."
"Aron is a hunting dog, one of the many left behind in Prijedor… We found him in an improbable and dangerous situation: he had been abandoned and had taken refuge on a rooftop! We rescued him just in time.
Since arriving at the shelter, he’s been struggling to hold on. His body, built for endurance and work, quickly wears down when he lacks food and rest, especially in the stressful shelter environment.
Aron needs a steady supply of food; his survival depends on it. But our resources are running low… Each day without new kibble lessens his chances of making it."
"Veterinary costs are overwhelming us, every day brings a new set of emergencies. We urgently need €2,000 to operate on a paralyzed dog. A puppy was hit by a car, and a cat’s spleen has ruptured, and its leg is broken – the surgery will cost €600.
Winter is coming, and we also need to buy 50 dog houses to protect them from the cold. To top it all off, our car just broke down. The repair will cost €1,100… Financially, we are on the brink of collapse.
Donations are incredibly low, and we don’t know how we’ll cover these expenses. We can’t choose between feeding the dogs or treating them! Both are equally necessary and vital for our dogs... This campaign is our last hope."
"I come to the shelter every day: to clean, feed the dogs, give them water, and care for them as best I can. Over the years, I’ve learned a lot, and along with two other volunteers, we do everything we can to give these dogs the best life possible.
These dogs are part of my soul. They are real fighters. No matter what they’ve been through, no matter their condition, they fight to survive. They wag their tails, full of gratitude when you help them. A dog will never betray you – there’s a reason they’re called man’s best friend.
We hold onto the hope that one day, they will all find loving homes and live the happy lives they deserve... We also hope that one day, the mentality in our country will change. That people will realize that animals are living beings too, deserving of love, care, and a place in the family."
