“The failure of our last campaign was a real blow. We’re still struggling to recover! We did receive a few direct donations, enough to last a month... but we never managed to fully make up for the shortage. We’re barely surviving: I buy kibble in tiny amounts, and sometimes people drop off a few bags at the shelter. It’s a precarious situation.
For the past two months, I’ve been rationing a mix of stale bread and low-quality kibble, the only kind I can afford — and even then, not in sufficient quantities! My dogs have lost weight, and their immune systems are weakened. In recent weeks, five of them developed a persistent cough that requires treatment...
I see them growing weaker, and I’m terrified that diseases will spread. Winter is coming... Without enough kibble, I know it will be merciless for my dogs.”
“Badi has been at the shelter for a few months. Two women found him tied up in an empty yard after his owners moved away...
We took him to the vet right away, who discovered that Badi has severe liver and kidney problems. He’s on continuous treatment and care but remains very thin and struggles to gain weight.
To stabilize his health, he urgently needs good, consistent nutrition! Without kibble, his condition is likely to deteriorate further, and recovery will be impossible.”
“Life on the streets is getting worse: more and more stray dogs are forming packs throughout the city, and residents are afraid of them. For the dogs and for us, the few volunteers trying to help them, the situation is becoming unbearable.
I gather whatever I can to feed them, but it’s rarely enough. Most of the time, all I have to give them are scraps or stale bread... Malnutrition is weakening them, and many are becoming aggressive out of hunger. Recently, I found a dog severely injured in a fight; he’s in critical condition at the vet, hanging between life and death.
It’s heartbreaking — these dogs are forced to fight each other just to survive! Without a new supply of kibble, the violence will escalate, and I won’t be able to protect them anymore.”
“Donations have dropped by half in the past two years. The economic crisis is hitting us hard: unemployment, rampant inflation, prices doubling from one month to the next... What I could afford for the dogs not long ago is now out of reach. Donations are down, costs are soaring, and we can’t meet their needs anymore.
We’re overwhelmed. Veterinary debts are piling up, and our vet is waiting for payments we can’t make. As soon as one bill is paid, another injured dog arrives, needing emergency care. Vaccinations, spaying, treatments — everything is becoming unmanageable.
Adoptions have come to a standstill. In three months, only five dogs have found homes. The crisis is so severe that many people are abandoning their own pets. Some even beg us for help, and I no longer have an answer for them...”
“My journey in animal rescue started in 2011 with a single dog: an injured retriever I took in. I named him Spaske. He became the inspiration for my mission and the name of my organization. That’s how it all began.
Since then, I’ve saved hundreds of dogs, focusing on the most gravely injured or ill — the ones who had no chance of surviving on the streets. Many suffered from contagious diseases, and by rescuing them, I not only saved their lives but also helped prevent the spread of dangerous infections to other dogs, or even to humans.
Over time, I’ve learned a valuable lesson: the animals I’ve saved have shown me endless gratitude, far more than the people I’ve helped. Years ago, I encountered dogs I had rescued and rehomed. They recognized me immediately. That pure recognition, that sincere joy — it’s incomparable! Animals never forget.”
