"The dogs are eating the cheapest kibble we could find, and the stock is almost gone: we have barely 70 kilos left, enough for just a few days. The quality is so poor that some dogs get sick—they scratch themselves, develop rashes, have digestive problems… but we have no other choice; it’s all we can still afford.
Donations aren’t enough, and with the holidays coming up, we know things won’t improve anytime soon—not in December, not in January. But running out of kibble is not an option, especially now! With the cold weather, the dogs are even more vulnerable…
I think about it day and night. It haunts me; it keeps me awake. It’s a huge responsibility: making sure every dog in the shelter is fed, protected, and cared for. What we desperately need right now is kibble. Without help, we won’t be able to provide it..."
"I’m really worried. I’m afraid the dogs might start fighting over the kibble. With what little we have left, things could spiral out of control very quickly. The last thing we want is for them to hurt each other!
We put so much effort into helping them socialize and learn to live together. But without kibble, all of that falls apart. Hunger drives aggression, and aggression leads to fights. And fights mean injuries we’ll need to treat—something we absolutely can’t afford right now...
Everything depends on the kibble. It’s what keeps peace in the shelter and protects the dogs’ health. Without it, we’re helpless. Our dogs urgently need it..."
"Cesar has been at the shelter for about a month. We found him wandering the streets after a report about a dying dog. We didn’t hesitate for a second and hit the road to rescue him.
When we arrived, he was in a horrific state: so weak he could barely stand, skeletal, nearly hairless, starving. It was heartbreaking to see. It took an enormous amount of effort to help him regain some strength, and only now is he starting, slowly, to recover.
But without kibble, all of that progress could be lost! We’ve done everything to save his life and give him a chance to heal, but if he goes without food, I fear he’ll never have the strength to fully recover. He’s still far too fragile to endure any kind of deprivation."
"We’re going through a critical time trying to fund the shelter, despite all our efforts. We’ve stepped up our actions on social media, sharing rescue stories like Atlas, a paralyzed dog, but the results aren’t there. So far, we’ve raised only 40 euros, when we need 400 just to cover his care. Meanwhile, debts keep piling up: 1,200 euros for kibble, 700 for vet bills...
I’m working twice as much to try to make ends meet, but it’s not enough. We’re already struggling to feed the dogs, so when it comes to other things—vaccinations, spaying, specialized diets—we’re completely overwhelmed. These essential needs have become out of reach, and it’s getting harder and harder to manage everything on my own. The stress got so bad that I ended up in the hospital a few weeks ago... My body gave out. I felt so dizzy I couldn’t even stand.
I’m at my limit; I need help... The dogs are counting on me, but on my own, I can’t meet their needs."
"I’ve always had a deep love for animals. But seeing the plight of stray dogs in North Macedonia, I knew something had to change. Here, no one cares about them—their growing numbers on the streets, the terrible conditions they survive in. After seeing their suffering, I couldn’t just stand by.
I started by taking stray dogs into my home, nursing them back to health and giving them a little respite. That’s how Happy Shelter was born—a refuge for abandoned animals with nowhere else to go. Since then, with our small team, we’ve saved nearly 450 dogs. Each one has gone from a life of struggle, hunger, and danger to a loving home where they are finally safe.
I know we can’t save every dog—there are far too many. But every life saved matters, and for them, it changes their whole world. Dogs give unconditional love, even after being betrayed. That’s what drives me to keep going, to do everything I can to give them the life they deserve."
