1. In France, Monique is almost out of kibble to feed 500 street cats… The poor things risk starving to death!

"Our association cares for around 500 free-roaming cats in the town of Istres and its surrounding areas. In my sector, I’m responsible for about 150 cats. This year is even more challenging because there are so many kittens. At one of the feeding spots, we discovered that some cats hadn’t been spayed or neutered, and now we’re dealing with a wave of kittens, many of them sick! To top it all off, we’re almost out of kibble...

We’ve started rationing, but as the cold sets in, the cats’ needs are increasing! It’s really stressing me out. I’m scared I won’t be able to feed all the cats that rely on us. If they don’t have anything to eat, it will be a disaster: they’ll go searching for food elsewhere, weaken, get sick. With winter approaching, it would be catastrophic for them... They have only us to depend on!"

2. Niki is fighting to recover from a serious infected wound : she desperately needs kibble to heal!

"Niki is a young cat, barely 5 months old. We captured her with a large infected wound on her leg, crawling with maggots. The vet had to perform a skin graft, and she’s now wearing a protective collar. We treat her daily, but she remains very skittish.

For now, the priority is for her to heal. Once she’s recovered, we can consider releasing her back to a feeding site. But for that, she needs to regain her strength, and without kibble, it will be impossible. Everything depends on our ability to feed her properly!"

3. Veterinary bills are crushing the association, donations and adoptions are rare—Monique is running out of options to feed the cats.

###

"Our veterinary bills have become unmanageable. We’ve had to fund major surgeries recently: enucleations, dental extractions... These are life-saving procedures, but they’ve left a huge hole in our finances. We have bills piling up, and we owe the vet a significant amount of money.

We’re doing everything we can to find solutions: organizing activities like Christmas gift wrapping, a lottery, and making small items to sell. We also organize kibble drives at pet stores whenever we can. Occasionally, if we’re lucky, one of them will donate kibble that’s just past its expiration date... But these kinds of donations are rare and inconsistent.

Adoptions, too, are becoming increasingly difficult. We do everything possible to find families for our cats, but the results are far from what we hope for. And it’s tough because we know that every adoption eases our financial burden and frees up space for other cats in need."

4. Monique isn’t asking for money, she just needs kibble to keep street cats from starving.

###

"My husband passed away a few weeks ago after a long illness. It’s been very hard emotionally… and financially as well, because it means my income has been cut in half. I have to recalculate everything, and I don’t know yet how much I’ll be able to dedicate to the cats going forward.

Physically, it’s also becoming really difficult. I have severe back pain, I can’t walk long distances or carry heavy loads like I used to. Despite that, I keep feeding the cats—I tell myself that as long as I’m alive, I’ll continue... But it’s getting harder and harder. And I’m not the only one. Most of the feeders are older women, and we’re all dealing with health issues.

Honestly, it’s hard to stay optimistic these days. We’re doing what we can, but the fatigue, the pain, the losses... it’s all so overwhelming."
