1. In Serbia, Zuzana is almost out of kibble to feed the 113 dogs in her shelter. They will starve if no one helps!
"We have 113 dogs at the shelter. Some of them have just been rescued and are in critical condition—injured, sick... One dog required an amputation, and 11 others are suffering from a severe parasitic disease. These are all new arrivals, and they need medication, specialized care, vaccinations… and, of course, food every single day.
The problem is that we’re almost out of kibble. What we have left will barely last a few days! And with winter fully set in, it’s even harder. The freezing cold is relentless... We urgently need kibble to keep the dogs warm and prevent them from falling ill.
I’m doing everything I can, but at this time of year, donations are scarce… So I’m reaching out to you: even a small contribution can make a world of difference for our dogs! Feeding them can’t wait, and time is running out."
2. Cold, hunger, and stress weaken the dogs: without kibble, they risk falling ill or fighting!
"The dogs are more tense these days, especially with winter settling in. The cold, hunger, and stress—it all takes a toll on them. It can make them sick, lead to fights between them, or worse, both at once...
Knowing that in just a few days I won’t have enough kibble to feed them is heartbreaking. And honestly, with the holidays around the corner, it’s even harder to bear.
This is supposed to be a time of sharing, love, and family. And these dogs are my family! Seeing them so vulnerable, knowing the situation they’re in, is truly heart-wrenching."
3. Mama is far too old and fragile to endure the winter without kibble.
"I found Mama on the streets just after she had given birth. It took me a long time to earn her trust and finally get her and her puppies to safety. Today, Mama is old, fragile, and still very shy. Even after all these years at the shelter, I’m the only one she allows near her.
Mama shouldn’t have to go without kibble—not at her age, not in her condition. She’s far too frail to endure such deprivation. She needs kibble to hold on, to stay strong enough to face the winter. For her, more than for the others, having enough to eat isn’t just important. It’s vital."
4. Veterinary emergencies have drained the association's funds... Zuzana has nothing left to buy kibble.
"The situation is really tough right now. We’ve had to handle medical emergencies—amputations, fractures, illnesses. We already have debts with the vet, and now we’re nearly out of kibble... We’re at our limit.
The municipality has given us some support, but it’s far from enough. We launched a Christmas donation drive, but contributions have been low—probably because this isn’t the easiest time of year. Despite all our efforts, we’re struggling to meet the needs of all the dogs.
Every day feels like a battle: finding enough to feed them, covering medical costs, keeping it all together. It’s exhausting. No matter how hard I fight, it feels like it never ends. I’m disappointed in a society that lets these amazing dogs suffer—and in myself for still hoping things will get better."
5. Zuzana isn't asking for money, only kibble to prevent the dogs from starving.
"For as long as I can remember, I’ve always wanted to help animals. When the issue of stray dogs in Ada became unmanageable, I knew something had to be done. The thought of dogs being left on their own—sick, injured, or simply forgotten—was unbearable. So I took action: I found a place to shelter them, and that’s how it all started.
Every dog I save reminds me why this work is so important. Seeing them safe, secure, and free from pain brings immense satisfaction. These rescues have taught me so much about resilience, love, and forgiveness. They show their gratitude in their own ways, often without even realizing it, and it’s incredibly moving.
I dream of making the shelter even better: a larger space, better suited for sick or fragile dogs, and enough food so I never have to worry about running out. This work is demanding, but these dogs deserve the best."
