Animal Webaction visited the site 22 December 2024 and confirms the situation described below.
"The living conditions at feeding sites have worsened lately. There are more and more cats! I’m facing several challenges: the increasing number of kittens, the lack of kibble, the shortage of donations… It’s becoming harder and harder to feed everyone.
I only have two bags of kibble left... I’ve already started rationing portions to stretch the remaining supply, but given the number of cats relying on me, it’s like putting a band-aid on a gaping wound.
I’m extremely stressed. I don’t have the money to buy more kibble, and I don’t know what will happen if this campaign fails... I’m ashamed of not being able to manage this on my own, of failing to meet the needs of the animals I’ve vowed to protect!"
"The kibble shortage is already taking a toll on the stray cats. Their health is deteriorating, and they’re losing weight rapidly! For now, the situation is still somewhat manageable, but the longer this scarcity lasts, the more severe the consequences will be…
My biggest fear is that the cats will fall ill because I can no longer feed them. Life on the streets is already hard enough! Some neighbors complain about their presence and don’t approve of me feeding them in the area. Sometimes, I’m even forced to relocate the cats to keep them safe...
If the cats become desperately hungry, they’ll no longer be tolerated by locals. A starving cat rummages near houses, sneaks indoors to steal food… Without my kibble distributions, they’re all in immediate danger!"
"Amondo is a young cat, around 3 or 4 months old. He’s suffering from severe coryza—he’s lethargic and weak... He urgently needs care to prevent his condition from worsening.
If not treated properly, coryza can lead to serious complications, such as lung or eye infections, and even total blindness.
Without kibble to strengthen his immune system, Amondo stands no chance of recovering—no matter how much care I give him…"
"Taking care of all these stray cats comes with enormous expenses. Just for their food, I spend several hundred euros every month! The problem is, donations are becoming increasingly rare…
To try to make ends meet, I sell accessories to buy kibble, but unfortunately, it’s not enough. A small Belgian organization offers occasional help, but since they support multiple people, their assistance is limited.
On top of that, I have debts with the vet, and the price of kibble keeps rising. Adoptions are also stagnant—only six so far this year… I don’t know what else to do. I live under constant stress, worrying every month about the fate of my cats. This month is no exception…"
"Since childhood, I’ve grown up watching my parents care for animals with so much love. Those memories left a deep impression on me, and now I do the same. For me, animals are a source of light in this world. They are my therapy, my comfort.
By caring for stray cats, I try to improve their quality of life. I provide them with essential care: spaying, medical treatments, and food. Thanks to these efforts, their suffering and stress are reduced, but there’s still a long way to go…
What I hope for most is real change. I want to see greater awareness of animal welfare, for young people to understand the importance of respecting and protecting stray cats—and all animals in general!"
