Animal Webaction visited the site 27 December 2024 and confirms the situation described below.
"Our shelter is perched in the mountains. Right now, everything is covered in snow! The cold is biting, and the conditions are far from ideal: the dogs’ kennels are made from salvaged materials and are poorly insulated. We add straw to try to keep them a bit warmer, but what they need most right now is kibble! And that’s where we’re stuck...
We’re almost out. We barely have enough to last a few more days! I’ve already had to reduce their portions, and it shows. The dogs are hungry, they’re more nervous, and their behavior is changing... It breaks my heart to see them like this.
I give my all for these dogs. I spend my days by their side, caring for them, playing with them, cuddling them... I try to give each one as much attention and love as possible. One thing is certain: if love alone could keep them alive, my dogs would live forever! Sadly, reality is much harsher: only kibble can fill their stomachs."
"The dogs are cold and hungry, and that’s a terrible combination! They’re nervous, and they’re fighting more and more often. It really breaks my heart to see them like this. The worst part is that winter has only just begun. We still have months of snow and freezing temperatures ahead of us... The dogs are going to need much more kibble than usual to make it through.
If this campaign doesn’t work, it will be devastating... We have no other way to find food for them. I can handle many challenges, but without kibble, I’m powerless! I don’t even want to think about what might happen if we don’t succeed..."
"Our financial situation is very fragile. Donations aren’t enough to cover all the dogs’ needs. I’ve tried writing and sending appeals for help, but they haven’t brought results. I wish more people could get involved, but I can’t blame them. The world is going through hard times: there’s so much poverty, so many people in need of help. These are difficult moments for everyone—I understand that.
Unfortunately, the lack of donations makes it really tough to properly care for the dogs. For example, I’ve had to delay treatment for Max, one of our oldest dogs, who has wounds on his body. For now, I’m bandaging him myself, waiting until I can take him to the vet.
I truly want to offer the dogs a better life, but without resources, it’s hard... That’s why this campaign succeeding means so much to me. With enough kibble, we could also cover vaccines, medications, and everything else the dogs need... It would make such a huge difference! Your organization is like a ray of hope at the end of the tunnel right now."
"My shelter is indispensable: for these dogs, it’s one of the few safe places in the region! On the streets, their lives are short, full of dangers and suffering... My shelter protects them from that, as much as I can. I’m convinced it has saved countless lives, and I hope it can keep doing so for a long time.
But it’s not easy... Raising awareness about animal welfare is a real challenge. Some of the things I hear or see still manage to shock me... There have been times when I couldn’t see a way forward. But somehow, I always found a solution.
This work fulfills me, despite the difficulties. These dogs have taught me so much: patience, love, and the strength to keep going, even in the hardest moments... What keeps me going is them! They give me the courage to carry on, even when everything feels impossible."
