Animal Webaction visited the site 05 January 2025 and confirms the situation described below.
"Our association takes care of about 450 stray dogs in the Casablanca region. It’s an enormous responsibility, one that only keeps growing due to the increasing number of abandonments. Distributing kibble not only nourishes them but also helps us monitor this vulnerable population closely.
Unfortunately, all we can offer them now is stale bread, and we’ve also had to reduce feeding times. This is especially alarming given the current context: Morocco is preparing to host the World Cup, and local authorities are rounding up stray dogs in large numbers. Culling still occurs...
The only real way to protect these dogs is by feeding them properly and sterilizing them. Dogs with ear tags aren’t captured, and well-fed dogs don’t cause problems. The issue is that we can’t afford to do both right now. I feel utterly powerless, caught between a rock and a hard place. This kibble campaign is our last hope to help them!"
"Odin is a 4-year-old male who lives on the streets. We’ve been monitoring him for a while, but his health has deteriorated significantly lately: he was bitten by another dog and is also suffering from mange.
He’s extremely fragile, with a weakened immune system. Without treatment and proper nutrition, he won’t be able to fight off the infection or heal properly!"
"The number of dogs at the shelter has increased significantly recently because we’ve been rescuing dogs from the streets and the pound to save them from euthanasia. Unfortunately, many arrive in terrible condition. This surge has caused expenses to skyrocket and created an overwhelming burden. The shelter is overcrowded, and we are critically low on kibble.
For the past 15 days, the dogs have only been eating once a day, surviving on leftovers mixed with small portions of kibble. They aren’t getting enough vitamins or minerals to stay healthy. Their immune systems are weakening, making them more vulnerable to infections and diseases.
The youngest dogs and those recently rescued, who are often traumatized, suffer the most. They need proper nutrition to have a chance at recovery. If this campaign fails, it will be disastrous for the dogs already in the shelter and for all those we can no longer save."
"Lily is a 3-year-old female we found injured on the street. She was likely hit by a car, though it’s hard to say for certain. Unfortunately, we had to amputate her leg, and she has just undergone surgery.
She needs plenty of rest to recover, but most importantly, she needs good nutrition! The lack of kibble is slowing her recovery and putting her survival at risk."
"Donations are becoming increasingly rare, and our online fundraisers have stagnated. Unfortunately, we have neither partners nor sufficient funds to purchase the kibble we desperately need. This lack of support forces us to resort to temporary measures: reducing rations at the shelter, limiting street feeding...
We’re even forced to postpone or cancel essential rescues and veterinary care. At the moment, we can only afford to sterilize two dogs per week, which is far too few. Meanwhile, the municipality continues to organize culling operations without offering us any support.
Our expenses keep piling up: buying kibble, paying salaries for caretakers and our ambulance driver, maintaining an aging ambulance that frequently breaks down, covering fuel, insurance, and registration fees. Added to this are the costs of medication, cleaning supplies, and antiparasitic treatments. We just can’t keep up. Without donations or support, we’re at a standstill, unable to move forward."
"I decided to act after witnessing the suffering of animals in my city and the mass culling of strays. I couldn’t stand by and do nothing in the face of such injustice. Today, our association is recognized by local authorities and the media, which motivates us to keep going.
We play a crucial role, serving as a true balancing force. While culling hasn’t completely stopped, it has decreased significantly thanks to our efforts.
Most importantly, hundreds of animals have been saved, and public attitudes are beginning to shift. When people see that I dedicate my life to this cause and that I save animals without hesitation, even at the expense of my career, it inspires them to see animals differently. That gives me the strength to keep fighting every day to offer these animals a better life. It’s a real victory."
