1. In Bosnia, Maya is running out of kibble to feed the 45 dogs in her shelter. They will starve if no one steps in!
"Winter is the hardest season. Our needs increase on all fronts: kibble, blankets, electricity, heating… And now, we’re down to just 70 kilos of kibble—barely enough to last two or three days. This shortage complicates everything: taking care of the dogs already under our protection is challenging enough, let alone rescuing new ones. But the calls for help keep coming. Winter or not, there’s no pause for us...
In recent weeks, we’ve faced truly heartbreaking situations. Mothers and their puppies in distress, a dog abandoned at a vet clinic, left for dead by its owners... Every rescue strains our already scarce resources even more.
Honestly, it’s hard to bear. The puppies, the elderly dogs, the sick ones—they all rely on us to eat and survive. But without kibble, we’re stuck. Winter is unforgiving; it’s the worst time to face a shortage like this."
2. The kibble shortage directly threatens the survival of the most vulnerable dogs!
"The moment our kibble stock runs low, the dogs suffer—immediately. Elderly or sick dogs, puppies… they are the first to feel it. And right now, sadly, we have many dogs who fit this description!
Sick or elderly dogs absolutely need kibble to make it through the winter, for their treatments to work, and to have any hope of recovery. It’s the same for puppies: their growth depends entirely on proper nutrition! Without it, everything falls apart...
It breaks my heart to imagine their health deteriorating because we can’t provide them with kibble...
3. Rescued from the streets in critical condition, Ellis desperately needs kibble to survive.
"Ellis has been at the shelter for a month now. When we found her on the street, she was at the end of her strength: anemic, dehydrated, in critical condition. Her spleen was enlarged, her liver severely damaged… She barely had the energy to keep fighting.
Today, she’s undergoing treatment for her spleen, anemia, and liver. We’re doing everything we can with the vet to save her, but she’s not out of danger yet...
She urgently needs vitamins, supplements, and most of all, kibble. Without it, she won’t make it!"
4. The shelter is overwhelmed by veterinary bills: Maya won’t be able to fill the bowls if this campaign fails!
"Here in Bosnia and Herzegovina, we don’t receive any official support. The shelter survives thanks to the help of friends and whatever we can scrape together from our own pockets... We’ve been fighting for years to stay afloat.
Winter is always the toughest time financially: energy bills skyrocket. And now, with several sick dogs, veterinary expenses are heavier than ever. We already owe €1,000 to the clinic... Kibble, shelter repairs, rent, debt repayment—everything has been put on hold because we simply can’t afford it!
We don’t like begging for donations. But right now, we have no choice... Without this campaign, we won’t be able to fill their bowls!"
5. Maya isn’t asking for money, just kibble to keep the dogs from starving.
"I’ve always loved animals, but one day, I realized the dogs around me had no one to help them. It started with one dog, then two, then more... Very quickly, we were taking care of fifty. How could we choose which ones to help and which to leave behind? It’s impossible.
That’s when we understood that this shelter was essential. Yes, it’s a huge responsibility, and it requires many sacrifices, but we are saving lives! We rescue dogs from terrible situations, provide them with care, love, and most importantly, a real chance to start over. We help them recover, regain their trust, and heal from their traumas.
No matter what they’ve been through, they continue to give love without reservation. Their honesty, resilience, and ability to trust again are truly extraordinary. They’ve taught me so much and continue to teach me every single day."
6. If this campaign succeeds, Maya will not receive any money but 1400 kg of kibble, delivered from Animal Webaction's logistics centre in Bosnia.
