Animal Webaction visited the site 12 January 2025 and confirms the situation described below.
"We keep getting calls about urgent cases. Everywhere, injured dogs: hit by cars, one by a train, another shot... Rescuing these dogs is expensive. Very expensive. A single urgent case can cost up to €900. A day in a veterinary clinic is €10. A surgery, between €300 and €400. Right now, we have 4 dogs in intensive care! The bills are piling up, and donations are no longer enough...
As if that weren’t bad enough, our kibble supplies are running out. We have almost nothing left! Winter here is freezing, and the dogs need even more food to survive. But the shelter conditions don’t help: it’s just dirt ground, nothing solid. With the rain and cold, everything turns to mud...
We’re at our wits’ end. We’re doing everything we can, but now we need help! Without kibble, we won’t make it. And neither will the dogs..."
"I’m so worried about the lack of kibble. I’m scared the skinniest ones won’t make it through the winter—they need to gain weight... I’m afraid the dogs will start fighting over food just to survive, which could lead to injuries or even worse problems.
I’m worried about the sick ones. Some dogs are undergoing treatment, but without enough food, the medication might do more harm than good... They’ll have no chance to recover.
We have no choice: this campaign has to succeed! It’s our only chance to hold on."
"Dexter was hit by a car. We found him in the street, his back legs badly injured. He underwent surgery, but his recovery has been long and complicated. He’s lost weight since the operation.
The problem is, he’s not eating enough. He’s far too skinny... He needs more kibble to make it through the winter, regain his strength, and recover. It’s vital for him!"
"We’re going through an incredibly tough time right now. We have 4 unpaid bills with our kibble supplier, and they’ve made it clear: we can’t place any more orders until we pay them off! Every year, donations slow down from November to January, but this year it’s worse than ever. Despite our pleas for help, we still don’t know how we’ll buy kibble in the coming days...
And that’s not all. We owe a lot to the veterinary clinic too. Many of our dogs are still being treated there, and the bills keep piling up. There’s no money to improve living conditions at the shelter either, and the rent has even gone up...
We’re doing everything we can to show how critical the situation is, but the response isn’t enough. And the government? They’ve given us €100 in 10 years... We’re out of options!"
"I’ve always loved animals: dogs, cats, cows, it doesn’t matter. When I was a child, I dreamed of becoming a veterinarian, but my parents didn’t support the idea. So, I found another way to dedicate myself.
In 2012, I came across abandoned puppies in the street. I couldn’t leave them there, so I took them in and cared for them. That’s when I met Maggie and her organization. They were so dedicated to rescuing animals that I immediately knew I wanted to be part of it. That’s how my journey with this shelter began.
What we do here changes everything for these animals. We save them and transform their lives: sterilization, medical care, finding loving families. Around here, almost no one helps. In fact, it’s often the opposite... Someone has to take care of them, and that’s what we do. We fight to give them a chance: to rescue them from hunger, abuse, and neglect, and to offer them a safe life filled with love and families who truly cherish them!"
