Animal Webaction visited the site 18 January 2025 and confirms the situation described below.
"We have 650 dogs in the shelter, and yet we constantly come across animals in distress. We do everything we can with the donations we receive, but the reality is simple: we can’t keep up. We’ve had to stop taking in new animals. We just don’t have the means anymore…
Getting kibble has become a real headache, and more than that, it’s incredibly unreliable. Some days, we manage to feed them, but we almost never have enough. So, we reduce portions, ration as much as we can, and make do with bread or scraps… This has been going on since the end of last year.
And now, we only have enough kibble to last until Wednesday. This situation is terrifying because kibble is the foundation—it’s the bare minimum! The shortage is starting to have serious consequences: the dogs are getting sick more and more often. This is the time to act. We’re out of time."
"The dogs are really starting to feel the effects of the food shortage. They’re losing weight, their immune systems are weakening, and we’ve even noticed some becoming more aggressive—probably due to the stress of hunger.
It’s so hard to see them like this. If we don’t get kibble soon, we’re honestly terrified of what could happen. Their health is already deteriorating, and it could get even worse. We’re afraid we might lose some of them…"
"Achille has been with us at the shelter for six months now. We found him wandering the streets, his eyes pleading as if he was hoping someone would notice him and give him something to eat. He was likely abandoned by his owner.
When we took him in, he was nothing but skin and bones, covered in demodex, in truly terrible shape. Even now, he hasn’t fully recovered—he’s still weak and struggling to heal. What he desperately needs to get better is kibble! It’s his only chance to regain his strength and recover his health."
"The financial situation is really critical right now. Donations have dropped so much that we’re struggling just to keep the shelter afloat. We’ve had to cut back on veterinary care, as well as the quality and quantity of food we can provide.
We no longer have the funds to cover basic needs, let alone pay off our debts! In fact, we still have unpaid vet bills from August… To make things worse, adoptions are at an all-time low, which makes everything even more difficult.
Our only steady support comes from Prijedor Emergency, an Italian organization. They do incredible work by covering part of the food and veterinary costs, but their resources are limited too. Unfortunately, the donations we receive aren’t enough to feed 650 dogs. We’ve exhausted all our usual solutions, and our current partnerships can’t meet our needs."
We’re completely stuck, which is why we’re turning to you! We can’t make it without your help."
"Seeing abandoned animals suffer with no one to help them is what drove me to take action. It breaks your heart, but it’s also what motivates everything we do here at the shelter: saving lives, giving them a place where they can heal, feel safe, and be loved. For many of them, we’re their last hope, their only chance at survival.
But honestly, it’s not easy. Keeping this mission alive with so few resources is a daily struggle. We can’t do it without a helping hand. Even a small contribution can make a big difference. It could mean a meal for a starving dog, care for an injured one, or simply giving them the safety and attention they deserve.
These animals teach us so much: resilience, unconditional love… That’s what gives us the strength to keep going. Together, we can give them the second chance they deserve!"
