1. In Serbia, Svetlana is almost out of kibble to feed the 250 dogs at her shelter. They will starve if no one helps!
"The number of stray dogs has skyrocketed recently, especially puppies. People abandon them in the streets without a second thought… We take them in, but our shelter is overflowing! We’re overwhelmed. Feeding everyone is getting harder and harder.
A month ago, I had to start rationing. I buy stale bread from the bakery, mix it with leftover chicken and a bit of kibble. But we have so few resources that I had to change the proportions—more bread, less meat… It’s far from ideal.
And now, we’ve reached the limit. In three days, at most, there won’t be a single piece of kibble left. The dogs are restless, barking, hungry. It’s urgent. Honestly, I’m at my breaking point. I need this campaign to work because otherwise… we have no solution."
2. The dogs are hungry, their agitation is growing… Without kibble, fights will break out!
"The kibble shortage affects our entire shelter—but most of all, the dogs. They’re more restless, barking impatiently before meals and still on edge afterward. Their portions have shrunk, the quality isn’t the same, and even though they eat, they’re never truly full.
What worries me is that it’s only going to get worse. If we keep running out of kibble, tensions will rise, and fights will break out—it’s inevitable! I feel helpless. I’m doing everything I can to prevent it, but without kibble, my hands are tied. I just hope this campaign works..."
3. Weakened by his disabilities and abandonment, Mico needs proper nutrition to have a chance at thriving in the shelter.
"Mico is one year old. I found this young male wandering near the highway. Born deaf and visually impaired, his former owner—a hunter—decided he was ‘useless’ and simply abandoned him.
Life at the shelter is tough for him. He struggles to find his way around, doesn’t get along well with the other dogs, and can’t secure a spot to eat. He needs special care for his eyes and a proper diet to help him recover. He’s still so young… He truly deserves a real chance."
4. Donations and adoptions are collapsing, debts are crushing the shelter… Without this campaign, Svetlana has no way to feed her dogs.
"Our financial situation is catastrophic—worse than ever, even during COVID. Donations have completely dried up. A few of our dogs have sponsors, but it’s nowhere near enough. Aside from a monthly donation from a Dutch organization, we have no regular support.
Every month, our debts pile up—electricity, vet bills, kibble. We just can’t keep up anymore. The global economic crisis has hit donations hard, and to make things worse, adoptions are at an all-time low. The shelter is overflowing; we don’t have the space or resources to keep going like this.
Right now, our absolute priority is securing kibble. It’s the only way to feed our dogs, protect them, and ease—if only slightly—the financial pressure crushing us. Without it, we don’t know how much longer we can hold on."
5. Svetlana isn’t asking for money, just kibble—so the dogs don’t starve.
"Caring for so many dogs is a daily battle. The hardest part is seeing their suffering—day after day. No matter how many years pass, you never get used to it. We’re exhausted, short on volunteers, and constantly fighting to secure funding. Under these conditions, providing a truly safe and comfortable refuge is a constant challenge. And it’s exhausting.
The worst moments are when we rescue an injured dog, believing we can give them a second chance, only to lose them in the end… It breaks our hearts every time. But at least, in their final days, they experience kindness and love.
And then, there are those moments of joy—the ones that give us the strength to keep going. Seeing a dog learn to trust again, watching them leave for a loving family… That’s why we fight. Our shelter should be a stepping stone, a place where they heal before finding something better. My dream—maybe a little idealistic, but one I hold onto—is that every single one of them will one day find a real home."
5. If this campaign succeeds, Svetlana will not receive any money, but 2000 kg of kibble, delivered from the Animal Webaction logistics centre in Serbia.
